I have a 1985 Yamaha maxim 700 model code xj0 and when I hold the clutch all the way in and put it in gear and try to roll it it will roll but it rolls really hard just like when it’s in gear but it doesn’t stop, you can hold the clutch all the way In and push it all over the place. It’s not running atm waiting on a set of carbs but I really don’t want to start it with it doing this. The clutch cable is adjusted all the way out with the most tension on the cable too. Any help would be great

If you can push it in gear with the clutch held in and the engine isn't turning over, the clutch plates are disengaging, but there's a lot of drag from cold oil between them.
    That's absolutely normal.

Right, if the clutch didn't disengage, the engine would be turning over. If the OP should can't tell if the engine is engaged, he might try pushing the bike with the clutch handle held in and then release it to see if there is a difference.

Isnt a bike harder to roll in gear w/ the clutch in vs Neutral cause in gear whether you have the clutch pulled or not, the drivetrain is still connected to the transmission right? Thus there is more friction in gear w/ clutch pulled in vs in neutral.
Clutch only disconnects transmission from the engine. Clutch is not exactly the same as neutral.

I normally find this to be the case most of the time, if not all.

The best way to put it is when you put the bike in gear and push it without the clutch held in, the bike is hard to push and stops after a foot or so like normal but if you keep it in gear and hold the clutch all the way in the is almost no change in how easy/difficult the bike is to move the only change is that the bike doesn’t stop after a foot or so you can push it anywhere till you let out the clutch. It’s just really difficult to push

Exactly, so there's a lot of drag just turning the trans over plus the cold drag of the disengaged clutch.
I don't know why the OP isn't pushing it in neutral - maybe there's a problem selecting gear/s or neutral.

I haven’t even gotten the bike started yet there is no problems with running through the gears but I have the clutch cable adjusted all the way out and still same thing, I just don’t want to fire this thing up and kick it in gear with the clutch in and have it take off on me

Is the clutch lever on the clutch cover fitted so that the marks line up. If that lever has a lot of play before it pulls the pressure plate the clutch cannot disengage property. Make sure the lever is correctly fitted and then adjust the cable. It is harder to push a bike in gear for the reason's stated. Plates can stick too if the bike has not been used for a long time.

On my 900f l can see the pressure plate lifting through the oil filler opening in the clutch cover. Check your 700 to see if you can see the pressure plate lifting when you pull the clutch lever.
