From this point forward an untitled machine is a risky buy. Pay accordingly.

Well, that is disappointing. Further research is required I think though. But the fellow is correct, dishonest folks ruined for the rest of us.

FWIW the lawyer that made the linked video is a car guy, and has used the Vermont loophole himself. He doesn’t share anything before making sure that it’s accurate.

In Georgia, a title is not required to register a car older than 30 years (I think), just a bill-of-sale or other "evidence" of transfer or ownership.....I would think that such requirements would be more common than not across most states.

What made Vermont special was that you didn’t have to live there in order to register a vehicle there. In most states if you bring in an out of state vehicle you have to provide an either a title or registration from that state (or the MSO if the vehicle was never titled). The only “workaround” now is to commit fraud and forge a bill of sale stating that the deal was settled in your state of residence (don’t do that). As of now the only legit way to title a vehicle with a lost title/ registration is to apply for a replacement in the state where it was last titled or registered in, and that costs a bit more and can take longer depending on which states are involved.

Some states, such as North Carolina, a "bonded title" can be applied for by purchasing an insurance bond. Eventually a clean title can be obtained. I have not tried this route. As I keep my NYS driver's license NC will not talk to me.

I went this route in Minnesota last year with a 1982 750 Seca that was last registered in 1988. I brought in a bill of sale and a surety bond from my State Farm agent ($100) and in two more years I can apply to get the "bond" off of the title.

I don't know if it will help in any way but if you can get it registered
Here in Fla first you only need a bill of sale.

But you have to be a Florida resident, don’t you?

I am not sure about that,
I know our Snow Birds do it all the time. You will need some sort of proof of ownership.
The bill of sale may be enough for that.

You do. Florida law is very clear about that.

It won't. Snowbirds own property in Florida. That makes all the difference.
