I hired a ute to pick up a second hand fridge today.
Drove it miles and miles, trapped and anxious.
    Toyota brand new, automatic, smick.

Dropped it off and picked up my xj and rode home.

Ahh thank the Lord for the xj. Strange how I feel safer on the bike than in a cage.

The "Ute" beloved of both Kiwi and Oz citizens but most of the rest of the world wouldn't know what you're talking about

    I know :)
Drive to Market on Saturday, Church on Sunday.
In the 80's we had the Subaru Brat. Yup, I even rode in the suicide seats in the back a few times.
I expected this to come to the USA a while ago but CAFE standards are killing small trucks. a Ute would be considered a truck.
They can't make an affordable small single cab truck in the USA cause of this darn CAFE standard. Even though the Ute would be very efficient compared to a big F150.
That is why people hold onto their little ford Rangers and keep them running.

Truck size utility vehicles aren't too common here, you're right, would probably have a hard time navigating suburbia with cars parked on the road.

Mostly 4/6 cylinder utes and vans.

Seen a couple of big American utes(trucks) but only a couple.

Who could ever forget the Dodge Rampage? 2.2 litres of fire breathing lethargy under the hood! Hauled my FLH from Eastern Colorado to Reno in the back of one of those in the 80's, front tires where barely touching the ground with that kind of weight in the back

Fire breathing lethargy... You may be a poet. I love it.

Kinda in the same vein... Although only the elevation issue.
I had the same experience carrying a Datsun 120y motor, low km from Japan, in the boot of a Datsun 1200 that needed a new motor... Muwahaha good times. Different times though, before all these crazy safety rules.
The fork lift guy who jammed it into boot seemed amused though.
