Can Anyone think of Anything that could cause Valve Chatter once the Engine Warms up?

    Have you checked valve clearance?

Is it valve chatter? Loose exhaust headers. Have you done a compression test?

So this isn't referencing My XJ, the issue is actually with an 02 R6 I bought last Week, but nobody in the R6 Forum is responding so I came Here.

Bought the Bike and Rode it 100 Miles Home and it didn't miss a Beat. Once Home I noticed an Oil leak, ended up finding a Rubber Plug lodged in the Crank Case Vent tube. Removed it, and Changed Oil with 2.8 Quarts of Mobile 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 and took it out for 2 Hours and no more oil leak. Warming it up the other day I Start getting Valve Chatter at around 150°F, Checked Oil level and Timing Chain, both good. Starts right up with no Idle or Revving issues, haven't Ran it long enough to see if it overheats.

The Idle Changed Today too. It has a bit of Lope at Idle, nothing Crazy but it's there. Today when it warmed up the Lope went away and it started sounding more like a Hum. Not like a Part Humming, but the Idle itself sounds like a Hum. When it happens it kinda Idles down like it's about to Stall but it never does, it just sits there Humming. It will Rev up normally, but goes right back to the Hum idle.

No Metal or Coolent in the Oil, and no Oil in the Coolent, so I don't think it's Hurt. But something definitely isn't right. My Current suspicions are Something it the Vacuum System, or Maybe the Head Gasket blew between Pistons 1&2. But that's just Guessing, could be way off idk.

R6 have you tried a stethoscope or long screwdriver with your ear to it to locate the exact area the noise if coming from? Check the top of the cam tunnel too, you can check if the adjuster is working properly if you have not yet. Just wondering does it have a cable driven tachometer with a noisy gear in the head?

If the head gasket blew surely that would allow coolant into the cylinders, because you said there is none. Don't think it is a head gasket, compression too high.

I Think You're right, But I have seen them Blow between Pistons before and all the Fluids stayed put. I don't think that's very common though.

I know you checked the cam chain. Did you do it with the cover off as in this video? This engine was rattly on startup new chain fixed it. And your chain is on the side of the engine easier to change, no case splitting involved. Have a look anyway see what you think. Pity you do no have a video to post so we can hear the noise. Just double checking it is not the chain before you do any top end work on the motor.

I assume it has fuel injection. What is the fuel filter like?

Actually no. The R6 didn't go EFI until 03. My 02 doesn't have EFI or Inverted front Forks.. And the Fuel Filter is new, changed it out before the 100 Mile Ride Home the Day I Picked it up..

So I have some Positive developments to Share this Time. Figured out a Fouled #4 Plug was responsible for the abnormal Idle, so that's squared away now. And I Drained the 10W-40 Mobile 1 R-4T and replaced it with Royal Purple 20W-50 and that delt with the Valve Chatter.
