Purchased a project fz600 sunday and just started to dig into it. Pretty simple bike for the most part, very stock except for the pods that someone put on (which I will get rid of). Bike has been sitting as a project for multiple people since around 2004, so lots of things have been touched and not really finished.

Have a couple of disconnected wires that I am trying to find a home for. This one (green connector) is a weird one. 3 wires coming out from the horizontal blade and 2 (red and black) are just bare ends. Any thoughts? Not even sure that it is stock, but I have not tried unwrapping the harness to see where the other 2 wires wind up. Note - this bike did not come with a stock airbox, so if there is a sensor on that then it is likely for that.

2 here. Pretty sure that the one with the wire tap on it is the remains of the kickstand switch wiring since on the other side of the bike the kickstand switch is dangling and its connectors are missing. The one I am curious about is the black wire with the ring terminal. Would assume it is a ground, but no idea where it should be hooked up. Not long enough to reach the battery.

Worth noting that both sides of that green connector are continuous with the battery ground terminal. So is the black wire with the ring terminal.

Seem to have identified the green connector as a California only "carb air pump" - so who cares. The long wire is definitely the remains of the kickstand switch wiring. Just need to figure out where the ring terminal should be attached.

Welcome to the forum. Nice looking bike, clean for the age. That was my first street bike back in the day. I am hoping you can get info as needed but the forum is for the XJ air cooled bikes and that is a FZ. Nice assortment of bikes in the pics you posted as well. Nice to see another wrencher enjoying the life.

Yeah - hard to find a FZ600 specific forum, but this one had a very good FZ600 thread so I figured I would give it a shot ;) If you have any suggestions for an FZ600 forum I would be appreciative - have not found one.

This is the reason I wound up here: fz600-resto-the-hotrod-xj (I'd post the link - but this forum seems to be weird with links)

Will do. I see that thread is from 2016 by a well known member. He is on here often and might be able to help out when the time comes.

I remember the only issue I had with my bike was the valve cover leaking a bit. Had to change out the gasket and all the rubber washers on the valve cover. I took mine to Germany in the late 80's and had fun with it over there. I sold it while I was there. Great bikes.

Unfortunately those 2 forums are FZ6 forums. Already been informed of that on one of them - they also had 1 good FZ600 thread. The gsxr one vids may come in handy.

Honestly, not looking for a ton of help, aside from needing to know where a few things are connected. Its just another motorcycle and I have had/rebuilt a fair number of them - although this is the first air cooled on in a very long time.

This was last months project. 2003 street triple that someone ran into a car somewhere around 2017.

That was weird. I had to delete the links in the thread I was quoting so that the board would allow me to submit it

F0und this in the service manual andlooks to be the same as the XJ's where the harness ground is connected via a coil bolt

I like that. but this wire is back near the battery and could not reach there. It also can't reach the battery.

That tripple frame was good? I mean ran into a car and never damaged the rake or triple tree area. Wow, if so, good find. Nice looking bike.

Yeah, oddly enough they managed to snap the forks, bent the wheel and front axle but didn't tweak the trees or the frame. I replaced the trees anyways, but it was only because the junkyard forks came with them.

I think that when the wheel hit the radiators and the block - that stopped much force from going into the head tube. The headers were smashed flat

Probably an anti-spam measure. If below a certain number of posts, links are disabled or barred.

There is also a similar looking ground wire near the rear of the engine and battery that is supposed to attach to the engine under one of the 6 mm bolts towards the right side of the engine. Sorry I don't have a picture.

Guessing that you mean the main engine ground that comes right off the battery cable.

That was the one I was thinking of. There is another that goes to the frame on left side under the front of the side cover. The screw also mounts the plate that holds the rectifier and ignitor. it doesn't hurt anything, and on some bikes, helps the charging and ignitions to run a separate ground wire that ties all of them together and assures a uniform ground. My Kawasaki ZG1000 being one of those.

PS, Nice save on the Trumpet!

The FZ600 motor is largely the same as teh FJ600 and Radian (and also Euro XJ600 to 1991) , both themselves built on the XJ550 base but bored and stroked so really you've come to the right place.
Of all the variants fo this motor I'm intrigued bythe FZ400 which has teh same bottom end but a water-cooled top end and (I think) 16 valve head. I've often thought about
grafting one into a 550 frame - but they are very rare in these parts (mainly a Jap export)
