Hello. I recently acquired an 82 XJ1100 Maxim that I am restoring. I was going to do a custom build with it until I learned what it is. Now I'd like to keep it mostly stock while doing a few personal touches. I'm wanting to do a custom header/exhaust set up. When I considered cutting the exhaust on it I learned that it is a rare Supertrapp 4 to 1 exhaust set. I was wondering how rare these are and what it might be worth. I would much rather sell it to someone that wants an original set than chop it up building something. It's in great shape and not all beat up. Does anyone have any information on these?

Does it look like this one on mine? Stainless and very solid. I like quiet exhausts, so this is a bit louder than I care for. I tried to do the same research you are and couldn't come up with anything. If the 1100 itself was a more sought after bike, maybe the exhaust would have some value. Seems to be a curious relic bolted to a oddball bike.

Yes it looks to be the same as yours. I only found one other one for sale online for $800. From what I found researching it the bike came with dual 2 to 1 exhaust originally. The supertrapp was an aftermarket setup to get a lower tone and a more adjustable back pressure. It's one of the only setups sold that didn't render the center kickstand. They're supposed to have adjustable discs in them to make them quieter/louder and adjust the back pressure. I'm not exactly sure how it works tho. That's all information I found after making my post here. I'm assuming there's not many left out there since only so many sold and a lot of them got beat up or cut then modified. The fact the XJ1100 in itself is such an oddball and uncommon model I'm hesitant on going full custom. I appreciate rare cars/bikes and hate to see them get chopped up, so I'm now going the route of restoring it to as original as I can. I figure why make it a unique custom build when it's already unique. I had never seen one before I got this one. I plan on polishing all of the aluminum on the bike including the engine to make it stand out a little more than it already does. I did the clutch case cover plate as a test. I might do the muffler too if it's stainless.

The disc stacking I was somewhat familiar with from having a Supertrapp on an old Suzuki dirt bike once. Max hp would likely take time/testing or dyno, but the rule of thumb instructions I read were surprisingly fewer than you might guess. Max hp isn't really my thing, so I'm happy tuning for exhaust tone. The one spot on these that isn't stainless and really should be is the nuts welded inside the tip that bolt down the discs. Every one snapped off. I replaced them with some stainless bolts and swage nuts but it was still a pain.

Looks like a great start on yours. Very nice polishing result.
