I hit 125 mph on a section of Route 1 outside of langhorne, PA on my 81 XJ 750 RH Seca. My speedo stops at 85 but a friend was alongside me on his 2000 Honda Nighthawk 750 with speedo going up to 140. My bike is pretty much stock except for Supertrapp 4 into 1 header and muffler.

I have had my 1982 XJ750RJ Seca with the factory sport fairing ,hard bags & trunk up to 121 mph... and it is all stock. I had a relative following me on a Honda ST1300 that's how I found out how fast it will go. These bikes are still great runners.

Both my XJ550's have 85MPH speedometers so I have no foggy idea but I have had one to redline in 6th which is about 108 maybe?

My 750 Maxim is Canadian, so it has the 200 (or more) km/h speedo. I took it out for my last ride on it Thursday night (plate is going on my new bike) and it wound up to 160 km/h (100 mph), and still had more to give. I did not as (a) the street-racing laws here lead to roadside seizure of your vehicle and automatic license suspension (so I was only at that speed for about 30 seconds). (b) it was getting dark and deer tend to be out and about.

I have to hand it to these bikes : they like to run hard.

it is my understanding (someone correct me please if wrong) that all Japanese bikes regardless of manufacturer equipped with mechanical front-wheel speedo drive are ALL geared the same, 2400rpm=60mph. So theoretically any Jap speedo you can get to PHYSICALLY fit should work?

My first Maxum, 1986 xj700x I was clock by a police buddy of mine at 121 because I wanted to know if it would go over the 120 mark. I would not recommend this to anyone. I was MUCH younger and MUCH dumber. I now try and limit myself to much more reasonable speed. I hope this new bike will at least go in the low triple digets when I get it running.

    Keep smiling,
It gives the bugs somthing to hit.

My 750 maxim was clocked at 125+ when the previous owner had it years ago. But he was almost 100 pounds lighter than me, back then. Since then he has gained all that weight and I own the bike. I'm hoping it will still run like that again. We'll see very soon!

Last night my seca inched past 130, at least based on the speedo in the chase car, 1998 camaro (which who knows if its even remotely accurate honestly, car has 180k miles on it and has never had anything other than oil, tires, and gas). My friend was driving the camaro and flashing strange hand-signs at me trying to tell me how fast I was going, once we broke the ton, the bike just walked away from the car. I shut it down when the bike developed a slight shake (not sure if it was the road or something bad) and he told me when we got home he was at 130 when he saw me close it up and i was still pulling away.

Like I said, no idea if I was really doing 130, but it felt like it. Scary!

i had a bit of a scare on the 900 this week, i was showing off by doing 180k in 3rd gear, overtaking a few mates when i hit a lump in the road, the bike jumped about a foot to the right (without me) then landed very sharply. i can tell where it happened as im sure the contents of my bowells are still there, and now i have a bill to rebuild the adjustable konis i had on the back. at least i have the father in laws xj 650 to ride till mine is better again. but boy that is a come down in the power range..

    105. My father has a radar gun from his police scum days(running traffic). He hated every minute of it and left the force as a narcotics officer.

At any rate, I did not try to go faster as the stretch we were on does not have a long way before a tight turn and to be honest, at 6500-7000 if that happens a lot more is possible....

Dunno. Both have Reaganometers so over 85 I have no bloody idea. I'll let you know after I get the 120mph speedo installed.
