does the xj typically have 2 fuse boxes? I have 4 fuses under the TCI. but am i supposed to have another fuse box with 4 more fuses in it? the reason i ask is because i just bought a wiring harness (used) to replace mine and it has a fuse box intact that my bike is currently without. (a likely cause of my turn signals shorting out.) I wanted to do the fuse box upgrade but i wasnt sure if im supposed to have 2 fuse boxes or 1.

I'm pretty sure all XJ's have a single "quad" fuse box, although some models have individual fuses scattered here and there, like the 750 Seca or the XJ1100...

well the way mine is set up is under the LH side cover i have the TCI box along with 4 screw in fuse holders. (the type where you put the AGC fuse in the cap that holds it and then screw the cap into a pocket. but there is no other fuse box or panel. ill take a pic and attach it asap.

As far as I know, Yamaha never used that type of fuse holder on anything - which leads me to believe that's a custom job.

The stock fusebox uses 4 glass fuses in standard clip-at-each-end holders.

That's not stock. Nice job though. I assume from your question that you still have the stock fuse box on top of the airbox. If not then this is the po's relocation idea. And a pretty cool one at that! If you still have the stock box then I would check to see what wires these fuse. If the 3 white and 1 brown wire from the stator then he may have been having alternator problems.

thanks. I dont have the stock fuse box. this is the only one. and until is saw pics of other peoples fuseboxes, i had thought that mine was stock because of its location and nice install. i had planned on changing over to a blade type box but i may just keep this one around.

Not stock but nicely done. I would not have gone with glass fuses though.

me neither, when i do my rewiring im going to see if i can drop in a blade fuse box in the same location that this one is in now.

is the location of my fuse box where one of the tool boxes would normally be?

the safest, dryest place for your fuse box is under the seat, just my 2c.

It was originally located on the airbox lid. Under the seat is the wisest location I can think of. All of the original wires terminated there.
