I just thought you all would like to know this cool thing. I have a world landspeed record holder for production motorcycles working in my dept here at Intel. He just broke the record last week down in Bonneville. His name is Shane San Miguel. He ran a 205.1mph! I spoke with him about it and he told me he actually made a run at that speed with one hand just to see if he could get the bike to go faster. I am going to put the address to his web page so you can see the bike that holds the record. :) cheers

I hope this doesn't violate the rules. I just wanted to share.

I have never seen anybody tie bikes down for transporation like that. They must have some smooth roads out there no tie down strap in the back??

handlebars that short? Sure! All you need to hold a bike securely is to have the handlebars drawn down tight enough to fully compress the front suspension, and the rest of the machine goes nowhere...

I usually throw a strap around my rear tire just in case it bounces around back there...
Most of the motocross guys I know just strap down the front, though.

Ummm - - 206 MPH a record? Aren't guys going faster on the street? In traffic? I've seen 150 MPH in the 1/4 mile 10 years ago with a dead stock 'busa. 9.48 Sec.

I know- - "salt is slippery" like wet asphalt.

    Rent "world's fastest Indian"
    995 CC ' s , 1920's technology, everything home made in a shed, no budget. Broke 200 MPH !

My concern with tie downs is that, on SOME bikes they have risers made from cast metal, instead of a clip on or a solid 1pc bar. I have seen the risers snap. Bars on the other hand, don't tend to break.

A snapped riser dropped a ninja 250 into the side of an R1... and damaged both bikes.

I've only ever tied my bikes down at the front and haven't ever had a problem even on 1000km trips

Doing it from the ends of the bars is fairly common on sportsbikes with fairings

206mph will be the record for whatever class he is in, guys on the street
might be indicating faster but run it through a timed mile and you'll find out there's a fair difference between indicated speed and actual

NZ record for a production Busa is within a couple of miles of that one

I asked abou the tie down thing. He told me that they were brining the bike back from the finish line and that they don't allow you to ride it back. That is why they are strapped like that. :) His class as far as I know is production motorcycle.

Forget the salt, add a turbo, set a record ! This looks like it was timed fairly accurately at 263.27 MPH on an airport runway, which are almost always less than 3 miles long.

Twice as fast as I've ever ridden a bike.
