I found an 85 Maxim X that I am wondering the value of. It as about 12,000 miles on it, and it appears to have been kept in immaculate condition. It has always been stored in a heated garage and has been covered after every ride. It includes new tires, and all lubricants have been checked and ready to go.

They do list a price for it, but I am wondering what the group members will suggest as a price before I quote their asking price.

    Thanks for any input.

    Jon

Well, personally, I'd give my left nut for one.

Before I knew what they were, I had an option to buy one for $700.00 that needed a little carb work and the guy was moving, but not taking it with him.

Saw one that was supposedly in flawless condition go for $3500.00 on eBay.

I usually see them for around $2000.00 - $2500.00 on Craigslist though.

2K what I saw mine listed for, but eventually got it for $1500. It looked good, but the carbs were gunked up, and it turned out to have a non-stock tank.

I paid 900 for mine in fair/semi fair shape. It had 23k miles, had been dropped on a trailer so it had a dent in the tank, laid down once Little rach nothing broken, and needed tires right away but ran great. I know have about 1400 into it including the purchase of the bike.

I paid $2000 for my 85 700N but that bike is much nicer than mine.

I just got back from picking up an '85 XJ700X with about 14K miles and is in decent shape for $500, but I feel like I got a steal on it. It needs the carbs cleaned and something with the front brakes are screwy. Other than that, the previous owner repainted the front fender, tank, and side covers the stock Yamaha red/maroon color. Nice bike for the price...can't wait to get it on the road!

The seller of this bike is asking $1900 for it, and seems like he will take no less than that. The condition appears to be excellent, but I have not seen it in person yet.

Well I'm a total motorcycle noob but I looked for used motorcycles in the $2000 range for months down here in Florida before I bought. The late model 250cc bikes were all around that price but the used larger cc bikes were mostly in the $3000 range.

The bike you pictured is worth $1900 IMHO.

All the others posting are for bikes that require work. The bike you posted about appears flawless and the X model is an added bonus. I wouldn't hesitate to spend $1900 on that bike.

I paid $900 for mine, but it is in fair shape and had about 44000 miles on it. People want a lot more for any bike now because of the price of gas. The bike looks good for $1900 as long as it runs good

Payed 800 for mine, Maxim XJ750 with only 9k miles on it. Didnt need anything to it, was running perfect when I got it without a dent or scratch on the thing. Thats San Diego California pricing so it may be different depending where you live. I would think that bike would be worth 1500-2000.

I reposted mine on craigs list just to see how much I could get for it, I set it for 1500 and I got a ton of responses.

Finally going to check this bike out today. Pray that the rain in the Minneapolis area holds off while we are there.

Mine was in similar condition when I got it, and I paid $1700 in eastern TN. It was a steal, though. I've seen them go anywhere from there to $3500 if they're in immaculate shape. $1900 seems like a good price if it is as nice as the pictures. Good luck!

I've bought a total of three Maxim x's. Prices were $200 (completely disassembled, took me 2 weeks to get back together. My dad has it now for the past 2 years and the thing is gorgeous), $500 for my current X (which was torn completely down, repainted, new tires, 'new' oem exhaust, tires, carb clean, seat and backrest recovered, tach, temp guage, handlebars, mirrors, switches, repaint of the frame and swingarm, you get the idea) and $300 for a bike that required just plugs, oil and filter and a battery. My dad covered the costs of that bike to $493 and the last one I sold was for $1550. I wouldn't sell my personal X for less than about $3500. I've got nearly that much in it without my time in it. I'd take $1900 cash with you, keep $200-300 in one of my other pockets or with a friend and throw the rest at him. Cash talks, but that bike is nice. Low mileage, runs with no issues and appears to be all there. The last bike I sold for $1550 wasn't even close to as nice as that. Let us know what happens with it.

Looks like today didn't work out, Thunderstorms in the Minneapolis area and rain for most of the day, Rescheduled for Saturday. Since I prob will have a 4 hour drive to get it back home, I didn't really want to do that in the rain. This might work out better in the long run, since the actual owner may be able to meet with me then, instead of his Dad. Yea, I was planning to offer him some cash on the spot He already said he would come down a little for cash on the spot, I didn't try to negotiate too hard though, since I would rather do that in person.

Mcrwt644, that looks like a pretty nice Maxim X that you have there also.

That maxim was one I picked up for $300 and put about 200 and change into and sold for 1550. Rode it for about 600 miles to make sure I wasn't selling a lemon. Here is my only X that I have in the stable right now, this is my pride and joy.

The picture above is of a bike that was in sad shape. The bike had mufflers on it that were not stock and horrid at that. I picked it up off a guy in Baltimore that had it listed on ebay. I got in touch with him asking how much his reserve was and he said 'come give me $500 for it and it is yours, and it runs'. I got there about a day or so before the end of the auction and the bike was sitting at $650. He said he didn't care, just take it. I had a bit of a time getting her going as the float levels were off and the oil looked like gloified water. I replaced the petcock, all the switches (I wanted to be able to read them), the entire exhaust, oil, filter, anti freeze, tach and temp guages, tires, brake fluid, master cylinder, recovered the seats, added a backrest, had all the body work done and painted ($410), stripped and painted the frame, new handle bars, side stand relay, wiring harness, grips, mirrors...well, you get the idea. It came apart in January of this year and was back on the road about June of this year. She only has 19xxx miles on her. Now if I could just get her to idle, I'd be happy.

Brought it home today, will look it over good after church tomorrow. Noticed there are a couple of things that it will be in need of.

Now I will need to find a buyer for my 86 GS550ES
