I bought an air-cooled 86 XJ last September that had not been running for quite a few years. I completely dissassembled the carbs, cleaned them, and replaced any parts that needed replacing. I first got it running in December, although it did not run well. To make a long story short I finally got it running right last week and am happy with the way it runs. Actually I took a day of from work last week just to ride it.

Many thanks to everyone from this website that helped me out along the way! You were all very helpful! There are too many names to list!

Good luck with yours, just keep trying. As was the case with mine persistence paid off, it just took a while.

    That's awesome... enjoy.

And do your best to avoid what I just did : I resurrected my Maxim this spring, finally got it running fantastic, then bought a bigger bike to start the process all over again.

Congrats again. Enjoy the 4000 to 7000 rpm range!

That sounds ok to me CdnDave77, if I ran across another "fixer" I just might buy it. Good luck with that! And the one you just fixed!
