seems like missfire

    Hey there !!!!!! this is a great site. Little question for the xj owners here I just got an xj 1100 and very good bike . I went on a road trip this week end and everything was great till i had big loss of power . I was running out of gas and then i stopped and put the reserve on drove like that for about 30 kms , finally put gas put the tank on again and then i was cruising at 140 kph and thats when i felt really sluggish cant go over 120 and full throttle . I was thinking the gas filter I dont know and want to find out what it would be . the guy i got it from redid the carbs this year so i really dont know maybe the rust in the tank who knows all i know is i made it back home at 100 kph for a whole distance of 300 km can anyone give me a sign

    Are you saying that the bike was fine until you had to switch to reserve? If so, I have the following suggestions:

    1 - Any air bubble in the fuel line or in line fuel filter (if present) will impede the flow of fuel. Check the line (and filter) and make sure there are no high spots. It should be all downhill from the fuel valve to the carburetors. A high spot can trap air.

    2 - It's possible that there is crud in the bottom of your tank, and when you switched to reserve you ran it into the carburetors. If so, you'll need to pull them out and clean them. Also get the crud out of the tank and install an in line filter.

    I vote for #2 and if you're lucky the screen in the tank caught the lion's share of it thus causing the IMMEDIATE performance loss.

    is the inline filter like a little square at the most quarter of an inch thick

    The inline filter is an aftermarket part.
    If noone installed one you don't have one.
    It would be conical shaped or bulbus, probably clear.

    I tried the hoses yesterday unplugging them and all and still the same problem . I guess my carbs are dirty . I would have to pull them apart damn those things were rebuilt this year . Is there any other options for me at this point or not. thanx

    also a realised i was running on regular gas and then changed to super is that maybe too to my problem

    I can't tell a difference in the running regular or premium gas, probably not your problem either. could be bad gas however
