does anyone know how difficult it would be to make a xjr1300 out of a fjr1300? if it is even possible? im assuming that you would just rip off the plastic and replace the front with a big ol' headlight.

    any info would help tremendously
    thanks

if you figure that out, there will be a shortage of FJRs here in the states...

well, at least among the XJ-ers who like them. like me....

the FJs are nice but the XJs are just too cool...

they need just a little bikini type fairing like the kawasaki zrx 1200. like this one...

well I went to the yamaha shop today and checked out the 08 fjr1300
just taking a look at the fairing and the engine throught the few holes in the fairings, i found that it would be very easy to remove the fairings from the upper quarter fairing.

now the quarter fairing it self... i found that I will have to get my hands on the headlight and blinker assem. from europe which is a lot easier to do vs getting the xjr itself.

    As for the 08 fjr1300.....
i like it a lot, the bags come off easy the power is remarkable, and you can adjust the seat height by about an inch...im 6'0" and the one i rode , the seat was in the upper position and i found i was on the balls of my feet if not on my tip toes at times. so the seat would have to be in the lower position if youre under 6'0". other wise I think i have found my next bike.

also, for those of you who dont know, the fjr1300 comes in a standard cluth operated tensmission or a push button transmission. The button is not as fun as the clutch version. In capable hands the standard transmission is faster because you dont have to wait for the shift lag which is anywhere from .25 to .5 second lag depending which RPM range you are in.

so the the pros out weigh the cons heavily.
    pros:
    power everywhere
    easily detatchable luggage bags
    adjustable seat
    adjustable windshield
    abs standard

    cons:
    abs standard
only comes in black for standard transmission/ or silver for the push button
only a five speed gear box

the price is a little high fo me
MSRP is just over $13000 for the one that was tested
the push button transmission comes with grip warmers and is about a thousand dollars more

so ill get off my review kick
and see how hard it will be to get my hands on a 08 xjr1300 head light and blinker assem.

sorry the post is so long
if anyone finds out anything before I do please let me know
    thanks for reading

Josh, 1st let me start with my envy, in that you actually found 1 at a dealership.

As cool as I think XJ's are......... I'd buy a FJR1300 in a heartbeat if the price was right and I had the chance.

Also the dealer told me that the only ones with ABS are the button shift models, and Black, now were talking.

I was told that 07 was the 1st year that dealerships ere alowed to order FJR's for floor stock, before they had to have a customer contract signed and 1000.00 down before they could order you one.

As soon as our local dealer gets his stock in he said I go for a test ride!!!

I really like silver but dont want an automatic.
If I dont end up getting an FJR1300 I will probably buy an 1800 Wing so momma and I can do some touring.
If I got the FJR she would jet the XJ and we'd still go touring.

    Thanks for the post Hvnbnd

I actually found 2 at my dealership
    an automatic silver w/ abs
AND a standard , black, also with abs
my dealer told me the th automatics came with ABS as original equipment
the non auto model can be ordered with the ABS the one that I rode did have abs

that sucks that you dont have the avalibilty to ride one right now
I agree with you on the color
i like silver on the bike better than black <i got to see both>
My dealer told me that they will release the 09 fjr1300 to the public next week
I am waiting to see if the 09s non auto will be available in silver
until then it is just a waiting game for a week

to be completley honest i would be ok with just taking the engine fairings off and leaving the upper quarter faring

as far as price i am hoping i can find an older one that I can tinker with for considerably lees amount of money

I wonder if the aerodynamics of the bike would be screwed up if the fairings are removed?
I'd hate to be over 100mph and find that I couldn't control the bike. (at a race track naturally)
I'll have to check with my dealer and see if the 09's are in yet.

I've heard rumors that the '09 will be a redesign, don't know how true but have heard nothing else to the contrary either. We have a few dealerships within a 100mi radius. All but one seem to have them in stock. and they seem to be willing to deal.

Yamaha already make an XJR1300 - although I don't belive they are sold in the US.

Have you tried ABS on a bike? I haven't ridden the Yamaha, but I have ridden a BMW with ABS and I would definitely consider that a pro, not a con.

yeah, them not being available is what is driving the search for an alternative...

i know of a couple riders who would buy the first one on their dealers floor...

    interesting picture file name: suzukixjr1300b.jpg

    i do like them...

I think I just figured out why I have such a crush on this bike.

It looks very much like the XJR1300
