Okay, where are all the places this could conceivably be coming from and how do I check them? I'm not interested in changing my oil every 300 miles.

To fix you need to ensure Petcock is functioning properly, float heights are correct, needle valves are sealing correctly. Mine was float height mostly.

I'm pretty sure my petcock isn't functioning properly. Found out the hard way my reserve setting doesn't work. I've had a stuck float in the past...

Forgot to mention, I noticed gas dribbling out of the left carb the other day.

Most likely is that you have a needle valve that is not sealing properly, combined with a petcock that is leaking a bit. The fuel is overflowing a float chamber and getting into the middle of the carb, where it then finds its way into the cylinder, and then down into the oil, and also out the back of the carb into the air filter box, and all sorts of other places, a good clean of the carbs should fix it. The petcock can leak a bit as the needle valve should prevent the overflow, but you might want to clean that as well
