I found an air leak today in the butterfly lincage where the carbs are linked together. to explain what I mean..this is the shaft that has the butterfly attached to it that opens and closes. It appears that there are some yellow colored washers that are supposed to keep air from getting in to the carb..But when I shoot some carb cleaner on the ouotside of these when the bike is running...it bogs..definetly a leak there, but my question is...
Would these leak a little anyway or is this abnormal?

They are only covering the throttle shaft seal. Sounds like time for new seals.

There are 2 per carb and you have break the rack down to do it. You should replace the fuel rail o rings while your at it. I went ahead and did a complete rebuild - needles and seats, all the seals and o rings when I did mine. Huge difference in performance noce I retuned.

Do you know who carries these rebuild kits? because all i have ever seen with a rebuild kit doesn't contain any of these parts...and the carb parts breakdown at cyclepartsnation.com doesn't list these seals either?

I buy all my parts from Chacal on this site. Len is very responsive and has decent prices. Look for entry by Chacal in for sale. He has a partial parts list posted but just PM him with what you need. He may be along shortly and post the list of stuff here...

Ahh Different animal - assumed you were talking about an XJ.

I don't have a good Honda parts source.

I'm in Raleigh but Mt Airy is not far. Let us know if you get up this way. There are several of us try to get together for rides etc...

The actual Seals are behind those outside washers. Once they beging leaking there isn't anything to be done about it but replace them.

Doing so is a big job. The Carbs need to be separated from the Rack and the Throttle Plates and outside hardware removed to slide-out the Throttle Shafts to be able to extract the two Seals from their seats on each side.

Member "Schmuckaholic" prepared a highly-visual show-'n-tell file of his successful Throttle Seal overhaul procedure. When he catches-up with this thread I'm sure he'll respond with the Link to his comprehensive file.

I don't know about the ready availability of the Seals you will need. But, theh bikes we own in this Forum share the same Carbs used on other Asian bikes.
So, you may be lucky and find what you need when our resident Parts Department Manager becomes aware of your needs matching what he has available for Carb work.

It would be helpful for all to know what Model and Size Carbs are on the bike you need to service.
Inspect them and measure the Inside Diameter of the Manifold-to-Head side of the Carb body.

I sprayed a little p-b blaster into the seals when revving to hopefully suck some in and maybe give the rubber seals a little life. I've let o-rings soak in that stuff before and brought them back. As long as they aren't cracked they might come back. I pulled some old mikuni carbs i had laying around apart and looked at the o-rings they had there..Mayeb I can smap them onto the kei-hins if all else fails. It was quite a taske gettig the mikuni's apart and if seemed there was no real way to get the butterfly's out with out some damage :(
