So I'm officially sick of looking at the ratty decals on the side covers and gas tank. They're tearing themselves apart and barely attached to the tank.

    My issue is this:
What will happen if I just take these old stickers off?? I see there's a little edge in the paint, but will tearing the things off take off some paint on the tank?

ALSO: How should I go about repainting the "Yamaha" logo on the tank? What about taking that off, too? What's underneath there?

Any comments on these would be helpful. Thanks.

its entirely possible that youll lose a little bit of paint but decals are supposed to come off pretty easy if you heat them with a hair dryer...

you could try some non-flammable mineral spirits at the same time as the hair dryer. that might help dissolve any adhesive...

as far as repainting the YAMAHA i would order from one of the places on line that sells vinyl lettering like here: Is It Fast

    thanks, guys!

Chacal, I may come at you for the yamaha letters, but really, as much as I love the look of these bikes and the "older" street look, I think the blue and white stripes are TOO retro.

Maybe I'm the only one with this opinion! :)

C'mon man, eighties is eighties! Then again, you don't get much more "retro" than the '81 550 Seca...Personally, I think your color scheme including the graphics is the coolest of all the Secas.

Like I said, to each his own. Trust me when I say that this bike is older than I am, though.
