When I bought my bike he was at work so I dealt with him by phone and with his wife. Was riding today and stopped by since he was out and about. Had a great visit, he was not aware of this site and does not do his own wrenching.

I did find out I am the fourth owner. First owner new to about 2003. Second 2003 to 2005. He had it 2005 to 2008. He fixed it up and put a lot of new parts into it (new boots to air box, new left switches assembly, new fork seal, new seat foam and cover to name a few) . She was in great shape when I bought it.

Was good to get some of the history of what he had done to the bike.

There's not many P.O.s who would enjoy a face to face.

That's cool. My PO is my regular riding buddy. He seems to be feeling a little seller's remorse after I found this site and fixed it up though.....

I think it depends on the circumstances. I can see where there would be POs you would not want to visit.

If the PO took good care of the bike like mine did and you don't show up griping about problems you had you can have a good visit.

Shoot who of us doesn't like to talk about bikes anyway.

My PO is my life long friend and an auto mechanic, classic restorer ect.

Over the years I've owned alot of his previous bikes

He did my inspection last week to make it legal after 9 years of mothballs.

Razed me real good about it too. But finally admitted he was happy to see it running again, then told me it looks good but it needs more work lol.

What are some of the things he told you -- you still had to do?

    Forks?
    Steering Head Bearings?
    Wheel Bearings fore and aft?
    Swings?
    Seat cover?

Get it running and get out the door.
The leaves will be changing color in a few weeks.
Then, the snow will be flying.
With Kerosene almost 4-Bucks a gallon; I doubt there will be many of us doing the "The Hot Stove" routine, ,this Winter!

I guess it means wrenching in the winter? It never gets that cold, here, though.

Nah I kind of made my own. I have a 5 worksheets.

Summary page of all the money I have spent
A page where I capture expenses in categories, Safety (helmet etc), tools, addons (windshield etc) and maintenance items
The maintenance page - Oil change record, then a date and what I did section where I list everything, adjustments, checks, greasing, polish metal - etc
Valve page where I am tracking the clearances measured and the shims
Maintenance due page ( this is a simple list of mileage for next oil change, date for periodic maint like fork oil, brake fluid etc)

I keep all the expenses because at first I did not want to get more invested in the bike than I could sell it for. I quickly got to wanting to get it right not just running better because I love the bike. Still I not far over value even with 5 oil changes before I solved my gas in oil issues :D

I took my '81 over to see its PO when I got it back together and he bummed out. He had sold the Seca to get the money to buy a bigger bike, a bored-out, pod-equipped late '80s monster Kawi of some sort and he can't get it to run right (surprise, surprise.) He had no idea the Seca could look/sound so good and was immediately stricken by seller's remorse. I threw in a small second-gear wheelie when I pulled away, just to rub a little salt... Now if I ever come face-to-face with the PO of my '83 I could cheerfully pop 'im one in the snoot...

So you met your PO today? I wouldn't be too excited about meeting your "Parole Officer" unless she's a playboy bunny or someting....

Oh you mean previous owner... ok.

reminds me of those VW commercials where the guy buys a used VW and then the PO contacts him to see if he wants to hang.

pretty funny concept. those vw ad guys are always coming up with funny ads. I loved the pimp your ride series, fahrvegnugen, ausgezeichtnet!, kleine GTI, etc.
