Very nice find. It seems to be the season for $500 bikes. Sort of takes the sting out of autumn.

One of a handful of Hondas I'd like to own.

    Looks awesome!

Would make an excellent muscle bike (allready is one).

Some piggyback shocks and a modern front end setup would make that thing a Beast.

Took some time this morning and went through the carbs. Put in some new plugs and it fired right up! Ran it around the hood a bit and right off a couple of the clutch plates were sticking so took it back to the house. The guy the PO bought it from, pulled the original airbox and put on K&N Pods... It runs great just a bit noisy with the pods. Going back out to change the oil and filter. Gotta luv Advance Auto as they had the plugs in stock along with the oil filter. While I'm waiting for that oil to drain I'm going to check resistance on all of the charging system components as it's not charging.

mines complete, but the cdi box is toasted, put a loaner in and it fired right up, just waiting for a cheap one to pop up somewhere.

Got through the carbs with no problems. Replaced plugs, changed the oil. Started it up and let it idle with a fan on it for a bit. Had a bit a smoke that cleared up after a few minutes running. Bike runs great, Idles well. Probably will still check carb sync even though I didn't crack the rack. Those K&N pods the PO put on are loud. Need to find an original airbox for it. Probably will cure what seems to be a lean condition above 6k rpm.

Charging System: Checked output voltage at idle, 12v. At 3k rpm 12v. While it was still running checked to see if Rotor was magnetized and it was. Shut it down and opened up stator cover. Checked resistance on Stator and had .4ohms between each of the 3 leads. Checked each lead to ground and they had continuity. Found that the stator was not mounted in the cover but just pushed in, and one of the brushes is chipped on the end. Rotor slip ring to slip ring resistance was 4.2ohms.

So what I'm seeing is that the rotor looks good, brushes should be replaced(or at least the damaged one). Stator is shorted to ground, and needs to be replaced, Correct ?

    Gonna check the rectifier/regulator tonight.

    Thanks,

Got a photo of the internals of your CDI box? It might be possible to salvage yours if it hasn't fried the entire thing. I'm working on an XJ900 TCI right now so I'm busy but I might be available later to help you out.

those bikes only start to charge around 2k rpm, under that they discharge

they need to put out 14.4v @ 3000rpm

    richard, nice bike.
Not sure if power has been restored in your neighborhood, but be safe out there. Hope the home/cars/family/friends/AND bikes made it through the storm

Nice bike for $500 bucks. Always had a soft spot for those style of Hondas. I've got it's little baby brother a 81 CB400T Hawk which I redid last year.

I have read reviews if the 900. They said that it runs out of gas too fast due to the tank being too small and the gas consumption too high.

If you are looking for a short range rocket ship then this the the ticket.

That CB750 on Ebay was a clean one Eh !

Turns out my 82 CB900F has an 83 CB1100F engine in it!
The only problem with it so far is the clutch rattle...If you call that a problem. I've located another clutch basket, just waiting for some prime wintertime to take it apart again. I also need to replace that 85mph speedo with a 140mph to be able to know how fast I'm going! Still too nice, not to be able to ride!

    Yea, I frequent http:\\www.cb1100F.net.
I have already replaced the starter clutch as it was fractured.
It's the clutch basket that has a rattle until disengaged in nuetral. I believe the rubber bushings in the gear thats mounted to it are probably pretty well gone. Hopefully the replacement basket I have will at least sound a bit better! Lol
