Ive tried and Ive tried to get my Oil filter assembly off of my 81maxim 550. The bolt was stripped when i bought the bike. Ive tried eazy outs tried gettin it out with a hack saw and then screw driver and it will not budge it broke the screw driver, actually many screwdrivers. anyone else had this problem im afraid my bike wont last much longer with the filter it has which is probably the original.

Pull your front Pipes and grab on to the Shoullder of that Bolt where it touches the Oil Filter Dome with a small Pipe Wrench.

Use a piece of pipe on the Handle of the Pipe Wrench and go for it.
If it don't come out that way ...

Grind-off the head and the shouldered part of the Bolt.
Try not to wreck the Dome.
Just grind away the center of the Bolt until the Shouldered area falls off.

    Bingo.
    Slip off the Dome Cover.

Put a Pipe Wrench to the Oil Filter Bolt and bring it out.

Treat your new one with AntiSeize Compound and Torque to Specs.

Sears sells an extractor set for stuck bolts and studs. Kind of like a nut with an aggressive, tapered thread. It just keeps screwing tighter until the bugger lets go. Worked a charm on the 750 Seca I did.

Get your new bolt from Chacal. Cheaper than Yamaha and has a larger head.

Oh, torque spec is 11 ft-lbs. Which aint much - just good and snug.

What they said. Above advice is right on, you are going to have to give yourself more room (pull the head pipes) and get medieval with it. Plan on destroying the bolt, the idea is to not destroy anything else. I would do exactly the same as Rick...

*sigh....I just bought those (on sale which is good ;) ) but cant get a bite on the bolt and don't have an impact set. Looks like it's time to borrow a dremel and go to work on the bolt. Old school here I come!
