I would love to see this come here in a shaft driven 1300cc or bigger version.

    Quoted from the web:

"Yamaha have released the first pictures of their new middleweight sports-tourer, the XJ6 Diversion. Fitted with a 599cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four that makes 78 horsepower at 11,500rpm and 60Nm at 8,500rpm, this seems to be the bike with which Yamaha will takes on the likes of the Honda CB600F, Suzuki GSR600/GSX650F and Kawasaki ER-6n.

The Yamaha XJ6 Diversion (with the addition of a full fairing, this will be sold as the FZ6R in the US market) gets a tubular steel chassis, 41mm conventional fork, preload-adjustable monoshock, box-section steel swingarm, and twin 298mm brake discs at the front, with twin-piston calipers. ABS is optional.

Fully fueled and ready to go, the 2009 XJ6 Diversion weighs in at 210 kilos. The bike will be in Yamaha showrooms by January 2009 and prices will start at US$6,990. Just one thing though – the XJ6 Diversion might prove to be a reasonably decent ride for beginners, but did it have to look so terribly dull…? Surely, Yamaha could have tried to make it look a bit more exciting… "

so, how exactly is this an XJ? It's liquid cooled, the mill is mostly hidden, crotch-rockety gas tank... The FZ600 looks more like an XJ than this, IMHO.

I still think that XJR400 and XJR1300 should come to the States :)

Looks too much like a crotch rocket for my tastes. I like the older styles and look better. I was at the dealer Saturday they carry Yamaha and Suzuki even the newer cruisers did not appeal to me.

I've been researching the FZ6 as a Seca replacement, actually an addition. The FZ6R appears to be a less expensive version of the FZ6. It's only a couple hundred less. I think for the money I'll still consider the FZ6. If Yamaha would designate it as an XJ that would seal the deal.

XJ6 or FZ6 I'ts a nice looking bike but it ain't no XJ MAXIM or SECA!

It's a different animal, still nice but very different. IMHO

I'd like to have the shopping-list of features that new Yammie has packaged in a Cruising Low-rider Frame.

I could honestly get myself to do frequent Chain Oil and Slack checking; if they'd throw-in some rugged case and frame guards, luggage and something else to be named later.

I agree, I would much rther see a new XJ cruiser instead of another "pocket rocket" on the market. I do however find the Honda I put up the picture of really sweet looking. Thoughts?

What, no YICS??? <sorry, couldn't resist> Chain drive=COOL. All that expensive fragile tupperware=NOT so cool. Why does Yamaha (and the rest of them other than Triumph) continue to think that "naked" bikes won't sell here? Is it really the case, have their marketing research data told them we all want rocketships? It's an "F" J or X or whatever, NOT AN XJ. Dammit. I want a nekkid version.
