Hi Folks, Ever wonder how many miles your XJ will last?
You guys who've put a lot of miles on the O, tell us the mileage on your still running XJ, we want to know how far an XJ can last. And, how long have you owned it too?
    Thanks!

Mine is no record setter, unless it's for so few miles. I bought mine the end of April with 17,995 miles on it. I topped 19,600 this morning on the way to work. I don't know the history of this bike but somewhere in the past it must have sat for a while.

btw, it was 34 degrees this morning. I need some warmer gloves!

The Seca has almost 45,535 miles (~73,281 km) on it, still running like a top.

And out of curiosity, Stereomind, how often do you check and adjust your valve clearances?

The 550 was adjusted about 4K ago, so I'm not too worried about it (yet). The Seca was checked about 2K ago (it was still within spec), and when I first got it, at 39K. I like to keep the clearances a bit on the loose side... and it seems that higher mileage motors don't go out of spec as quickly as low-mileage ones.

The replacement motor I just picked up for the Seca was adjusted as the first order of business. I had to get 3 new shims and swap 2 around. Luckily, we have a shop nearby that has just about every size shim imaginable, and they just trade me straight across.

The hardest part is to keep the blasted valve cover gaskets from leaking after reassembly.. And for something that takes less than an hour, a clearance inspection should be on top of everyone's list (well, up there, anyway)...

Pretty sure the Norwegian one posted above is the current record holder - he used to be a member of the XJ email list too.

I know for a fact that Dwayne Verhey's Seca is over 300k kilometers (Huntsville, Ontario).

Anyone else in the 300k plus range?

Guy's, I'm glad to hear about all these high mileage bikes! I was worried when I looked at the Xj's listed on Ebay and saw only low mileage bikes. I'm a new owner you see, and I wondered, why people weren't putting more miles on these bikes. Who really knows.

The two XJ550 Secas I have are at 106,230km and 86,770km, both are very rough and the 106,230km bike was using 1 litre of oil every 1000km before I pulled it to bits

But neither of them looked as though they'd been looked after very well before I got them
