Pulled the carb rack out tonight, thanks for the tips about pushing the boots back into the airbox. I just sprayed some silicon on the tubes and used a gigundo screw driver with a rubber cap on the end to force the lips of the tubes into the airbox. Hardest thing was getting the clutch cable out of the clip.

These carbs look really ugly, they have been sitting outside for over 3 years & he didn't prep the bike for storage.

I couldn't even get the throttle to move they were so frozen! 20 minutes of working some PB blaster & a vise grip to rotate the butterflies & they sprang right back into action. That PB blaster is the nuts!

I had been spraying all the screws I though I would have to take off for the last month or so.

I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get all the float bowl screws off without resorting to the impact driver.

I only buggered up on of the hat screws.

Increadibly all the pistons run up & down the bore with a nice thud as they bottle out. That was impressive.

So, the bowls have a bunch of varnish in them & some of the jets don't look too happy either. I soaked the inards down with carb cleaner.

So what do you guys soak the rack in? A particular solvent that works good?

I have plenty of time between projects so I'll just throw them in & let them sit for a few days.

    Thanks.

Don't do it! I learned the hard way do not soak the rack in carb cleaner

the throttle shafts have rubber seals that will turn to goo if you do AND the fuel rail has rubber o-rings also. as well as the slides have rubber too.

carb cleaner and rubber don't mix well, I found out, was before I found this forum, sadly

You need to decide if you are going to break the rack apart or leave it togather
