If it's really an XJ then it may be an XJ650 you can look at my gallery

Sidestand switch or safety relay issue. It dies when you put it in gear because it thinks the sidestand is down. But what's an XJ6?

    What year is it?

I think the XJ600 would be much newer than the 650's...
Isn't the XJ600 the Seca II?

I'd have to guess that it's an XJ650. XJ6, as far as i know, never existed. At least not as a yamaha.

well, I went on and bought the xj6, it was a pretty clean bike even with a few parts missing like side covers and air filter box...Im not sure what size motor it is ? 600 or 650????? not had a lot of time to fool with it :(
is there a .com that you can check out seiral numbers on a bike?
all numbers match the title. this is a 1982 model....4 cylender

I'd bet dollars to CCs that its a 650. There is such a site, but I'm not sure of the URL. If you look at the VIN it should start with JYA. The 3 letters/numbers after will tell you most of what you want to know. Mine is 5N8 which is the chassis number for a 1982 XJ650 Maxim.

Do a search for 'VIN' and you will find a very good post by Chacal that gives you great directions for decoding your VIN.

You can call your local Yamaha dealer and they'll get you hooked up with the model and size. I bought an 81 650 xj. Took it to a dealer and ran the vin. Turns out it was an 82 Xj750. It's worth the phone call.

Post your VIN and we can tell you what it is. Post your needs in the buy sell area and you may find some of them.
