Hi, Gang.. I have been lurking for a while and thought it was time to get in the game.

I actually found this site while googling for info and carb kits for a friend's 82 XJ650 Maxim.

While I was working on this Maxim, I was pretty impressed with the mechanical design and style of the bikes. I didn't think I needed to get too into the overall scene because I didn't actually have my own XJ. Well, things change given some time.

I currently tinker on my two old HD shovelheads and a Moto Guzzi Ambassador. The other day, tho, while offering up some harley parts for sale on another board, I got into an exchange with a guy who had a Maxim 700 hardtail project. We got talking about our projects and interests, etc. and by the time we were done, I had agreed to swap my parts for his Maxim hardtail project.

The fellow, WebHeadJames, has posted pictures here in the past... I think it's the ideal trade, because I think we're both pretty excited about the prospect of our new projects!

I'm ready to get started on the hardtial now becuase I just fired up the 82 XJ 650 yesterday and it is running GREAT with those fresh carbs. The tips I found here (particularly the M-C part number for the seals to use on the throttle shafts. MAN!, those carbs were gunked up!

Great site, good info and helpful folks! Thanks!

Welcome aboard. Sounds like you have don't need any XJ encouragement from us. So have you colortuned and synced your carbs also? Like Richard I want to see some pics too. Love to see what other bikers are working on. Finished bikes are good for most but gearheads like to see the operation in progress.

Welcome to you Dutch, a varied experience base is a great thing (so is an appreciation of the fine XJ). Glad to hear that a mutual upgrade occured (tipped in your favor if you ask me), nice to hear that trade is still going strong. That ought to strengthen our economy ('cause you still gotta get parts... ha ha ha. I'm kidding you here). A hard tail conversion sounds interesting, I bet ION will be along shortly so you need to get some pictures posted soon, he'll be itching to see them. Glad to have you on board and look forward to seeing your projects completion.

    Thanks

Thanks for the welcome, gang! :)

Here's a picture of the rigid 85 Maxim 700 I am getting from WebHeadJames.

I don't know if you care to see my HD or Guzzi stuff here, but this is what I'll be tearing into very soon!
