I paid $12 for one (plus shipping) for my '81, it's in real good shape, paid $18 for the one for my '83, it's a bit "moisture wrinkled." I saw one for a 750 Seca listed for $50 recently, I dunno what that guy was thinking... I would say anything less than $25 is probably realistic, depending on condition.

Are you talking about the 'owners' manual or a repair manual.

The original owners manual came in the little trunk of my bike and was in great shape. Helpful for general info but little help for repairs. Found a Clymer manual on CD for $10 via ebay. Took it to work and printed it out, punched holes, an borrowed a three ring binder to store it in. Now I can look at it on the computer and the hard copy is in the garage.

Not sure what an 'owners' manual would be worth. I guess it would depend on who wants and how bad they want it.

Not sure why you would want it unless you were trying to completely restore the bike to factory and wanted everything including manual and tool kit like it came.

Not to hijack but a Funny aside - I'd like an original tool kit with pouch - found one on ebay with $10 bid so I bid 10.50 - auction closing in 2 hrs. At the last minute the first bidder did the buy it now for $25 - I was at lunch he could have bid $11 I obviously didn't want it that bad.

I keep an owners manual in the "trunk" on both bikes just in case I need a quick "roadside reference" plus the "it's all there" factor. I bought the one for the second bike just to see if anything was different except the cover (XJ550RK vs RH) and there isn't.

Owners manuals are good to have on the road. Mine includes the wiring harness schematic and adjustment data. Smaller than the maintenance manual, they should be around $10 used.
Of course the preferred book is the maintenance manual which Chacal sells, runs about $70 new, worth every penny.

I found a complete XJ550 FACTORY service manual (even has the Maxim addendum) on eBay for $15. Has a couple greasy fingerprints in it is all, otherwise perfect. Has cable routing and other diagrams not found in the aftermarket books.

Schooter; Be careful with the steering lock, it has two positions. The FURTHEST position leaves the tail light on, and you can accidentally run your battery down (don't ask.) What I do when I use the steering lock is to turn it all the way, and then BACK to the first "lock" position.

The best thing about a manuel is that you can always put the blame on ot when things go wrong.
