Hey guys, once I get the carb boots back on (hopefully tomorrow)I am going to try to get my bike started for the first time since my dad parked it under a tarp and outdoors 14 years ago but I wanted to make sure that I didn't miss anything. I rebuilt, cleaned, and bench synched the carbs (hopefully up to rick's standard but I doubt it ;). Replaced the battery, and changed the oil and filter, and replaced the plugs and will be installing an inline fuel filter tomorrow or over the weekend. Is there anything else that I should do other than the fuse block? I figure the fuses can wait till I am actually going to ride her. I still have to rebuild the brake system and replace the rear tire before I even consider taking her on the road. Thanks for any advice, I know that so far I have been kind of a leech as far as getting info goes but hopefully I will be able to be a contributing member of society soon.

If you haven't already done so - put a tablespoon of penetrating oil down each spark plug hole and let it sit over night. Remove the LH engine side cover and crank over slowly counter-clockwise with a wrench to make sure rings aren't stuck.

Oh, don't put the plugs back until after you do the wrench turning. Much easier to turn that way :D

I just completed this whole process. Mine has been sitting for only 2 years though. I did a dynomite job on the carbs, charged up the batt. etc. I've got new oil and filter for her.

I took a more simple route with the cylinders. After pulling all 4 plugs (tank off) I used fogging oil in a spray can. I wanted to not only free the rings but make sure i got a healthy smattering of oil on the cylinder walls. Using too much is not a bad thing. To break the pistons free (mine were not stuck hardly at all) rather than taking off the cover I put the bike in 4th and rocked the rear wheel.
After 14 years... you may need the wrench.
After that, I used the starter to turn over the motor and lube the cyls.

This is also a good time to stick those plugs in the boots and check for spark. Mine had it, so i'm on to gas'n it up and test firing.

If there was a "social services" for bikes, I'd call the P.O. on that one.....
