well for my bike, what size mufflers should i get? is there only a 1200 sportster muffler? will i have to rejet? and as far as mounting goes... should i cut off the mounts? or, weld some bols to a flat piece of metal so it will fit in the 2 holes...

There's an 883 and a 1200. Same pipes though. From what I understand, no need to rejet.

The harley pipes arn't much louder than stock from what I have heard. They are a little deeper than the stock ones.

they arent really that loud, they get a good deep rap going above 6k, but thats to be expected. very decent sound in the lower half of the rpms. same decible level as stock i would say, just deeper and more of a rolling note rather than the high pitched pop pop pop. i liked them.

i got mufflers that had crossover ports on them, i used an engine freeze plug to plug the ports, and threw a tack weld on to make sure they stayed in.

Your friend isn't very bright is he... The springs control the valves, not the mufflers...

I have full size H-D mufflers on my 650 and love them. They do have that nice deep Harley sound to them and are comfortably loud IMO. I've never heard a stock XJ exhaust since my was rusted out, but I am definately loving the HD mufflers. I took off the factory exhaust, cut the mufflers right about where they start to get bigger and welded on the new mufflers (I tacked them on with the exhaust installed for fitment). The chrome welds fine so don't worry about it. I cut off the muffler hangers and kick stand stops and tacked these back on with the mufflers tacked onto the exhaust. Be sure the disconnect your battery and ground the bike very well. I then removed the exhaust and welded everything up. Again, I should really take some pictures.

He was talking like the backpressure would cause them to float lol

The sound from my mufflers is great , they are just 10" longer than stock taking the end of the pipe near the back edge of the rear wheel.

I got some great clamps that make them look like they belong on the bike.
