I got my '83 Seca 550 buttoned up yesterday and put my first actual road miles on it since I got it. Eighteen whole miles, woulda been more but about 9 miles out the tach died a horrible screaming painful death. Literally. Squealing so loud that people next to the road were looking at me funny, needle bouncing wildly between 4K and 9K while running at a steady 60mph. Also gas cap leaking horribly, valves definitely need looked at and carbs sorted. Ahh, the joys of a freshly-resurrected 25 year old XJ! Far from "finished" but it is officially "operational."

    Congratulations, BigFitz!

It is really cool to hear of another small piece of history preserved for a while longer. Did the tach cable twist itself up or did the head unit itself die? Reminds me of a bad speedo cable in a car that would succumb due to no lubrication.
Best wishes with the new ride!
