I am still working on my bike and had it idling for about 10 minutes. When I shut it down, the bottom edge of the tank was too hot to touch. Is this normal? Also what is a proper idle rpm for the 550.

oh, and the previous owner said that it never ran with the choke completely off. He was the original owner and said it was like this from day one. Somehow this doesn't sound right to me, but he is someone I have known for years and trust implicitley.

You need to set up a fan for any stationary tuning that the bike needs to be running. direct the flow onto the motor fan on high. It is very possible that it has always been that way. Be it me I would have taken a new bike back even if it needed to be a different dealer than purchase until the bike ran correctly. You should be able to clean and tune it to run properly.

My friends 750, that hes had since new would never idle right straight from the factory. It would always slowly (usually 40-50 seconds) idle down till it quit.
