Searched a couple of bike forums extensively and know I've seen the answer to my question somewhere. As a last desperate measure I'll ask the question.

I have four sets of Mikuni carbs and am totally sick of the philips head screws in the carb bowls and diaphragm covers that require vice grips to remove.

I plan to get a box of stainless hex head screws (100 for $30) to replace them but need to know what size to order. I'm guessing M5 by looking at them.

    Can anybody confirm size?

Sorry don't know off hand but just to mention - I took one of the originals to my local fastener store, and found what I needed in stainless. What I'm saying is you may not need to spend $30 for just 16 screws.
Whoops just saw you are looking for hex head. That may be a differnet story. I got Philips head again (though I maintain they should be outlawed) thinking that it will be OK, since they aren't so attracted to that sexy aluminum.

I'm not sure of the size but if you take your old screw to local Nuts and Bolts supplier they will tell you the size. Then come back here and tell the world :p

    M5 x 0.8 is the correct size.

I'm going for M5x10. I don't mind that little bit extra sticking through as it keeps the internal threads clean and give somewhere to squirt some lube before you remove them.

Hex heads sure make strippin the carbs a lot easier.
