So, with the money you saved not having to clean-out 25 years of nothing to clean-out ... spend it on a Squeeze Bottle of High-Quality Hypoid Gear Oil and change the Oil in the Final Drive.

If you make a little chute out of Aluminum Foil ... you can drain all the old Gear Oil right out of the Final Drive Unit without getting one single drop on the Rear Tire and Wheel.

If you think your engine is dirty internally, spend 20 minutes and pull the valve cover off for a quick visual inspection to see for yourself in the hottest part of the engine. Today's oils are so much more improved than those of 20 years ago that sludging and internal deposits are really rare, when regular routine oil changes are performed. My XJ650 with 26K is spotless inside.

Schooter, please do not mistake our collective efforts to warn you as yelling at you! That is not the point. We must emphatically warn a new owner so as not to have you repeat some of our hard learned lessons. This is our effort to save you some grief (actually quite a bit).
Our hope is to guide you to the path of a happy bike and independent wrenching. I hope you can see that.
Good on you for recognizing the value of preventative maintenance, your bike will thank you for it with many years of trouble-free mileage. There are some quick fixes for problems you may encounter but there are times when the long, hard path is the right choice. If you are interested in a clean engine, keep performing regular oil changes with a high quality oil and fresh filter. Best thing you can do for the engine.

I THINK THE CRITICAL ISSUE IS WETHER OR NOT YOUR ENGINE AND CLUTCH ARE ALL LUBED BY THE SAME OIL FROM THE CRANCASE, IT WOULD BE HARD TO KNOW WHAT ADDITAVES LIKE THESE COULD DO TO CLUTCH PLATES AND PACKS.....
