I have one of these on my Christmas list:

    Egli's motorcycle seatcover

I know people that have done cross country trips and swear by them. They come in white or black, and are available in single or double seat size.

I have tried the sheepskin route but kept sliding about. I also used to have a goofy INFLATABLE seat over-cover but it kept having "flats" and flat it made the seat more uncomfortable. Best solution (I applied it to both my Norton and my '81 XJ) was a REFURBISHED seat. The "non-compressible" polymer is very intriguing though.

i have used the gel pads before, but it only lasted a few weeks before it got tossed into the pile of junk in the corner. They are nice if you can get them to stay put, they tend to slide around then its even more uncomfortable than riding on the frame, lol.(yes, ive rode bikes with the whole seat removed and just sitting on the frame.)

I just removed the seat cover(was ripped) and added some different foam it took three sessions and test rides to get it where I like it and is comfortable for long rides. recovered and all is well. After 20 some odd years the foam in our seats is deteriorated(sp). for not too bad a price any good marine seat place and hook you up with a permanent comfy solution.

I used a sheepskin and an airhawk on my vfr and thought they were ok. I glued the rubber non-slip drawer liner on the bottom and it did not slip very much. I had some 1200 mile days on the vfr this way.

The airhawk looks a lot different than my old one.

    Airhawk

If you are too cheap to try that, go to walmart and buy something like this?

    Hunting Cushion

I should mention, although I liked using a sheepskin, (from IKEA for like 20 bucks), I was teased a lot about it, and the jokes about riding a sheep, seemed to never end. I always said don't knock it unless you try it... ;)

I have a sheep skin (real sheepskin wool, not the fake seat cover stuff) it has a leather back so it doesn't slide around at all. I have little Velcro straps that go down under the seat to keep it on. I cut it the same shape as the seat so it fits like a glove.
It keeps my bottom cool on warm days and warms on cold days. It's quite comfortable on long rides also. I nver seem to get a sore a$$ with it.
