Welcome. Tell us about your bike. Running or not? We like deatials. Edit your signature with the year model miles etc....

Also update your location - may be members near by that can help you out.

If you have never ridden I would enroll in a motorcycle basics class.

    What needs to be done?

Backrest is hard to find. I don't think I have seen one like your are talking about. I know 2 folks with Xs 1 has a backrest. They are great bikes. If you have any issues just post in the chat section.

Invest in a service manual. Beat money you will spend. You need to meet Chacal on this forum. He seems to have every part known to man with good prices and fast service.

Sweet bike! I'm looking for a backrest more like that than a sissy bar.

    I had to...

Don't lie y'all were thinking the same

You must be something special son.
This Saint of a Man gave you a motorcycle while you are taking out his daughter, nice description by the way but remember a picture tells a thousand words.
Nice bike, can't say I've given daughters boyfriends much of anything other than warnings.
    Good score.

Howdy! I am Steve from Minneapolis. I bought a 1982 750 Maxim for $400.00 I am happy to tell you all that it is a diamond in the rough. Except for some minor road rash it is in pretty good shape. The engine is not running but I was told it has been stored under a tarp for 10 years. It is 99.99% complete; only missing the grab rail. The guy I bought it from said it was blowing oil out of the crankcase breather, so I'm thinkin' stuck piston rings? or if I am real lucky, some one just over filled the engine when they put the oil in. I have started looking at other issues such as the inside of the gas tank; very bad in there, much rust. In my past I have owned 2 other XJ's, both 650's one was a YICS'r the other wasn't. I have also owned 2 BMW's; an R75/5 and an R90s. but the one I really liked was a Kawasaki KZ 1300. And last but not least, my first ride, a Honda CB350 twin. I am looking forward to chatting with those who need some advice, I have wrenched on all the machines I listed and got it right. Goodnight, Steve
