got her permit and bought a suzuki 2005(?) GS 500.

she is 18, just made the hockey team at Castleton college in VT. WTF does she think she is going to ride it?????? she didnt even have me or my brother come to look at it, so i dont know if the frame is bent like a corkscrew or if the swingarm is ready to fall off.

    she is in big trouble.

she says it has a "cruiser kit"......what is a cruiser kit?

I rode one of those bikes at the local dealership before I tripped on my XJ. Not bad. Decent amount of power for the cost, not very heavy, much more comfortable than your "average" sport bike.

As for the "cruiser kit".... the only thing I can figure is maybe an extended windshield and forward controls? Which would be bizzare looking on that bike, heh.

Why, precisely, is this young lady in big trouble? OK, she should have bought a Yamaha, but apart from that, what has she done wrong?

heh, woot, i can see in those pics on atpic.com that that particular gs500 has gone down at least once or twice on the left side ;) I gotta agree though, from what I understand about the bikes, they're pretty beefy, kinda like our XJs ... "takes alot to kill em" seems to be the general consensus.

Honestly the one I rode was fun. Just not quite what I was looking for, since it's a twin (i think?) instead of a 4cyl. I like a bike that revs up and tries to rip me off the seat, and most twins just aren't going to do that.

I do wanna second big_ross's question though ... other than she got a suzuki instead of a yammy, why's it so upsetting?

Probably just big bro looking out for his kid sister...

Looks like a great bike for her age...she will no doubt have plenty of male friends at castleton to show her the ropes...so to speak

That's a 500 twin, today it's about as close to a "standard" as you're gonna get. Nice bike, well constructed. Unless she got taken on a bad deal I wouldn't be at all upset about her actual choice. That would be a good starter bike for anyone whose feet can reach the ground. You said she got ahold of an '05. Here's a better link: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2 ... GS500F.htm

Nice teaser for a thread title. "My sister..."

I think she should do OK with it. The cruiser mods are funny on bikes like this. Not as bad as the 250 cruisers though. That is hilarious.

That GS low sided into a ditch... and was completely undamaged save the scrapes on the left side.

    Tough as nails.

(and no, it wasn't me riding it when that happened!)

schooter you are the only dinkledork who posts pics of his kid sister. :) i would have to say she is hot, because she looks like me HA!

she is in big trouble because she is not a bike rider. for one summer we owned an xr100, and that is the only bike she has ridden. everything else has been quad or sled, wich rides NOTHING like a bike. my opinion, is that the streets around a college town is nowhere to learn how to ride a bike. she has the "x-games" chromosome that i have, and she is very tomboyish.....i would not be suprised if she is practicing powerslides right now.

although this is a yami forum, sorry guys suzuki has never let me down, yami = poop from what my friends/myself have run through over the years. this was all dirt and snow vehicles of course. i will say the xj has been rather good to me, at a price i couldnt beat with a stick!

i guess the cruiser kit is taller handlebars and windshield, with the possibility of cruise control. i need to talk to her and get her to take some pictures. when i get them i will post them up.

Should be a great starter bike.

I think the "Cruiser Kit" is going to be something like Luggage or Storage Bags.
