NO response from the throtle cable

    I just rebuilt the carbs on my 1981 xj650 (midnight maxim) and put everything back 2 gether got the bike to start but i get no response from the throtle cable. THe cable is pulling the throtle mechanizim on the carbs but when i try to rev it nothing. Any ideas?

    Does it move freely to full throttle? It is very common to get the throttle mechanism caught on the engine when reassembling.

    sure you haven't got the choke and throttle cables switched around

    Did you do the clunk test on those carbs? If the slide pistons are hanging up it won't rev no matter what you do. See Rick's Old School Carb Cleaning. Good Luck

    I'm not sure if your bike ever ran by "throttle" before so I'm starting at the beginning.
    Disconnect the cable before the carbs and "throttle" back and forth to see if the cable is hung up inside the sheathing. Next get a screwdriver or needle nose pliers and pull (up) on the carb linkage (gently) and see if it responds the way it should if the cable were hooked up. If it's not the cable getting hung up somewhere, then I'd remove the carbs and open them up. *boohoo*
