    someone has to know the answer to this ... i've been searching up and down the net all night to no avail.

    I need to know what kind of switch is used for our turn signal controls, so I can make my own set of controls. The rest of the switches are easy to source out, but i can't figure out for the life of me what kind of switch I need for the turn signals! :(

    help!!

    quick edit: i will say i've checked the parts diagrams, and they only refer to the left switch assembly as the "left hand lever assembly" which, needless to say, is completely useless. heh.

    I want to redo my switch too. I want it to stay pushed left or right instead of springing to center, and I want it to shut off when I move it to the center detent. Looks pretty complicated, though. Here are a couple of wiring diagrams from various 80's Yamahas:

    Ch = Dark brown or chocolate
    Br = Brown
    Dg = Dark green
    Y = Yellow
    R = Red
    B = Black
    L = Blue
    P = Pink
    G = Green
    W = White

    I don't know why you would want to get rid of such a great feature.
    You could go to a motorcycle junk yard and look around until you found a left pod off of any older bike, that has a shape you can live with, and wire it in, or surgically remove that switch and epoxy - fit it into your pod.
    Junkyards sell pods for $10 - 20 bucks. Then you will have regular, old fashioned turn signals.

    Hi Switch not sure if this is what you are after. When you push the lever for turn there are 2 switches. The turn switch closes and stays latched and the second closes but opens when the switch recenters. This second momentary switch resets the canceler unit, the latched switch directs the flashers 12v to the proper side. Pressing the turn switch unlatches latched switch.

    So if you want to use the existing circuits you need a set up like that. The simplest form would be 2 push on/push off switches - 1 for right 1 for left which of course does not include canceling.

    hope that helps

    if i use two push on/ push off switches, it would basically be press left one on for left blinker, press it again to turn it off, press right one on for right blinker, then press it again to turn it off? am I understanding that properly?

    I'm taking a trip tomorrow to a local bike salvage yard to see if i can find a replacement switch I can live with the size of, to fit into my own home-made pods, but if not, i can deal with two on/off pushbuttons.

    Yes that would be it. The interesting thing is since you switch the 12v from the flasher to one side or the other if you press both on you have hazard lights. So if you make a left then have to make an immediate right you need to run off the left before starting the right.

    The type time was talking about would be better for your purpose.

    I'm really going for a minimalist approach to my new controls ... i probably won't have much other than blinkers, horn, and killswitch on the handlebars, everything else is being relocated, hidden, or removed. =)

    I'm taking a trip to a local bike salvagers tomorrow to see what they've got, I would really prefer to have my turn signals on one hand, as thats what i'm used to, and if I can find a set of controls with a small enough switch, I don't mind cutting them apart to put it into my own housing.

    Thanks a ton for everyones help!!

    that is nice and small ... but I think I'm gonna go lower profile than that. We've started welding up our own 'pods' to put a few pushbutton switches in. Handlebars are just gonna have 4 pushbuttons: left side: left blinker, right blinker, (push on push off for both). Right side: High beams and horn.

    All the other buttons are getting relocated to either in a framerail or into the custom seatpan that's being made.

    Now to find a set of clutch/brake perches and levers on the cheap ....
