well the tear out has begun. i have removed the motor from the xj maxim and have it sitting in the four wheeler frame loose. the polaris flywheel is on the right side of the swing arm. and the maxim motor has it on the left. i was thinking of using the swing arm off the maxim. could i use the same axle? can anyone give me an idea for this project?

Anything will work if you modify it enough. I dont mean to sound harsh, but chances are that if you have to ask whether or not something will work you most likely dont have the abilities required to complete the project.

I am guessing that the xj engine you are putting on the 4 wheeler is the 550 or 600 right? I used to have a polaris trailblazer 250 and if I remember correctly it would be much easier to use the polaris axle and swingarm and just flip the axle over so the sprocket is on the correct side. You will have to fab up a mounting bracket for the rear brake but that will be much easier than having to swap out the rear end.

If it is chain drive it is a 550 or 600. The 650/700/750/900 are all shaft drive.

will do soon, maybe tommorow.....yes it is chain driven so i guess its the 550 or 600. a reverse trike? i think i would need super suspension for 2 wheels in front one in back.

you could weld in a jackshaft...even easier yet...look at go kart parts suppliers for ideas.

i am going to use the bikes frame and mont it to the polarises front end. then for my 2 tires for the back, i cut the maxims swing arm ears off, and am placing the polarises ears to the maxims swing arm. all should be well.

sounds like it will work great for straight lines!

have you thought about a turbo while you are at it?

the seca models, (the maxim's sporty brother) comes with a turbo i believe.... but man you're REALLY using the wrong frame for this project. The 250's have poop for a suspension.. not meat for speed... you should try and nab a 450 rolling frame, or a 660 or 700 raptor frame... but if money is a problem and you already have the pol. fram, than what ever.

thanks for the advice on the frame. but i am using the maxims frame, just the 250"s front end. i will be making sure that i add gussets for maximum support. what does everyone use to line up your sprockets to the motor?

ah, well if thats the case... lol wow this is gonna look messes up, but try buying some yfx 450 shocks, and like a utility quad shock for the beck, on that has a straight axel, cuz thsi is going to be one HEAVY mother... as far as lining up the sprockets, umm, do you have one of those wall lazers? try sticking it to the back sprocket, or i dont know

typically dune shredders are made with a rigid frame and little for suspension not good for cruisin around dunes less trails too heavy most motor cycle motors used come from crotch rockets and are stuck in aluminum or light wieght steel.it would be cool but not competitive in a drag race with modern 450 quads.i should know VET A racer in wisconsin (motocross) we have a ultimate quad drag series here .high compression piston over bigger motor will win out every time these modern motors rev out like 2-stroke now days,my susuk ltr 450 rev out like 12500 ,fuel injection powercommander 13:1 comp 50/50 pump/race fuel.your going to have to extend your swinger or you'll tip over backwards

i use a piece of wood i cut that clamps to the rear sprocket, and has a long leg that should sit flat against the front sprocket. if there is air gap somewhere you can see where it needs to be moved.

as far as suspension....i dont think you should worry. i assume this isnt going to be run on a MX track, and putting the tank of an engine into the quad suspension will soften it up a bit. i dont think you will have any issues.

im not yet an expert with these xj models, but there are turbo models, and i know some people on this forum are selling turbos and related parts. somebody else would be able to better educate us on what years/models have the parts you would want.

i think you should make this an all out dirt dragster, stretch it out and lay it down!

the only thing "LTR" about this quad is the plastics, but cool none the less! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFtPtGTmJmw
