I recently purchased a turn key 82 Maxim 650 25K, very good condition, new Dunlop tires front/rear, new brakes front/rear, luggage rack/rest, runs very nice, starts up/idles nice, orig exhaust system (burning little rich), as indicated by the plugs, woman owned the bike so it was never revved up hard, she babied it. I paid $1K for it. is this too much for this bike?. I changed oil that was the only thing I had to do and cleaned the plugs.
BTW I added a picture, here is the link.

I paid $850 for mine and it needs carb work and needs a new rear tire and it needed a new seat cover.
I bought a parts bike to get the stuff that the daily driver bike needs.
I have much more than $1000 in mine so far.

If you can drive yours a couple of years with zero extra costs you got a bargain.

Nope you got a pretty good deal. But I would expect to spend a bit on it over time to clean/maintain your carbs and possibly other issues that may crop up on bikes of this age.

Mine was in great shape and I have a few hundred invested in maintenance and few hundred more in stuff I wanted to add since I purchased it 5 months ago.

You should be sure all the maintenance is up to date. A good bit of my investment is in changing all the fluids, rebuilding the carbs and changing seals, valve adjustment and tools to work on it. But I have it at a known maintenance state now.

Nope, you paid a good price for the condition that bike is in. You should feel pleased with your purchase.

I got my Seca for free! $400 later it is finally on the street. Still got a lot more work to do, but mostly in the cosmetic department. Maybe 200 more in parts and many weekends. With a ton more miles on it than yours. I’d say you got a deal somewhere between good and sweet!

For the shape that appears to be in you got a good deal. I paid $800 for my '81 550 and put at least another $800 into it before it was truly rideable. For a bike as gorgeous as that you done good. Replace those plugs though.

you are correct, dual disc brakes would be nice, I am still not convinced the cyle will stop quickly in a panic stop, the brakes works but,.. needs improvements.
