I've perused the forums for many MANY years now, think I had an old username but forgot it. Great site that has always been high up in my bookmarks.
First street bike 750 Nighthawk, folded like an accordion when I got rear ended. This got me started with inline 4s, but not c-rockets.
I then purchased an '85 XJ700XN Maxim X new in '85. It won me over the Viragos, magnas, vulcans, etc. at the time, the spankin' new VMax was just alittle out of my style/range. I loved that maroon Maxim X baby and cared for it for about 15 yrs (I think it was 24,000mi. when it ended up sitting on the side of house.)
Well, the "ex" got it 2 yrs ago, along with everything else, LOL, and gave Maxy away to one of our daughters friends. I hope to see it resurrected somewhere!
Last year, I purchased another hi-miles 1985 700X, for sentimentality, cleaned her up, benched carbs, etc. and have it running pretty well for its' age. She ain't pretty, runs dern good with occasional idle revs going amok. I may sell it or just totally rat it out, 2 cans flat black head-to-toe and bolt on some of my own junk to increase its' ratty, look/functionality.

Anyways, I was bidding on another XJ700X and was way outbid, my fiance snuck in and cranked up the max bid and I am now new owner of a customized black XJ700XN 1985 Maxim X, 18,000mi., 4:1 jardine Megaphone exhaust, airbox removed (pods), rejetted mikuni 33s, iridium plugs, etc., etc. So far, the intake/exhaust/carb jetting seems to have been dialed in sweetly, btw!

Re-energized about my XJ ownership after her gracious gift to me, and will be interacting abunch here as the season is changing, getting it "my way" for spring. But since it's non-stock anymore, I can continue to have my way with it :) we'll see what a fresh new winter in the garage will do ! Pics will be posted when I can.

Hope to help here anyway I can, as this is my 3rd X, hope I get assistance along the way, too!

Southern New Jersey, just outsida philly. Lets ride!

you got it, schooter, that's the one. I was at $2300 or so max bid on an 18k mile '85 X. But my gf secrelty bidded higher near the end and won it, just guessing as a present to me? I like girlfriends like this!! Hence my fiance, lol.
It is as it was advertised, there's actually 2 vids on youtube, but the second one is just electrical testing demonstrations.
I am not done with it. :) Winter is long and the garage is warm , LOL.
One tip, tho, Never paint the engine with the bolts tight! One crack of a bolt to loosen it, I expect some chipping.
Nice to meet you all, I have high hopes for my adopted wolf.
    Brings me back....way back :)
Why 4:1 exhaust instead of 4:2, that's my earliest question. Tho it works just fine so far.

LOL, I'm pretty sure I paid in '85 what I just recently paid, I had this one shipped to Jersey so it upped the final cost. Dern close, if I recall, forget the price in '85. (it WAS 1985, I was in my teens....a few hard years on the brain since then ;) )
Present KBB "retail" cycle value I think had it about $1k under the price I just paid. Some may say paid too much for an '85 bike, screw-that tho, I got my X!
    I GOT MY MAXIM X!!!
KBB cycle ratings don't take mileage/condition into account when they rate them, for whatever that's worth.
A few months ago there was a pristine, barely ridden (like 4 miles) Maxim X on Ebay that sold for at least $4,000, I was watching that auction until the drool ran down into my keyboard and shorted it out! Any key I hit after that was garbled letters (mostly Xs tho!)
That one there was a collectors item, hopefully went to a good owner.
Glad I joined the forum, thanks for the comments. Will likely ask some questions/tips/advice from yous soon, I'm sure.
