Hey I'm new to the fourm, but i think its great to have a resource like this onlI have an 81 xj 650 maxim, and my problem is that my bike whistles. When ever I give it gas, there is a whistleing sound the gets louder and stronger with the engine speed. I only get the noise when I'm giving it gas, if I let the bike coast, or just let off the throttle the noise dies. Any ideas??

    Thanks

Is it a whistle or a gear whine. These bikes have a gear whine due to the internals of the transmission. It is very noticeable when you let the clutch out in first.

My guess would be exhaust unless you can pinpoint another area. Not uncommon for stuffy quiet mufflers to give a bit of a whistle.

Train it into a wolf whistle to attract a few chicks.

You know what, I heard that same whistling sound on my bike. I never noticed it when I wore a helmet, but I just rode without one for the first time and heard that whistling.

I recently joined the forum and I have an 82 xj750 Maxim .. I have a similar whistle, the bike runs fine, I was thinking it's high end noise, and adjusting my valves would help eliminate it .. sounds like valve area, high pitch component rattling.. I used to have an xs1100 and I had loose valves and had a similar whine .. anyone have any feedback?
