I'm more than halfway through modifying my 550 and all of a sudden I'm having second thoughts. I made hard struts where the shocks once lived. And fabbed up a pretty neat rear fender support. All my buddies says it looks good. I built it, so maybe I am setting too high of a standard for myself. What do you guys think? Maybe I'm just being OCD. (They should really put those letters in alphabetical order.) Is it as ugly as I think it is, or should I leave it alone? I understand it's my bike and I should do what I want, but maybe I'm being too harsh. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

i think its a great idea for a strut but imo it would look better if the top of the strut followed the line of the fender a little more

I like the way the fender folloes the frame line.
What if you made a lip in the fender to go over the rear mount, hide it?

Thanks guys for the help. I don't think I'll ever be truly satisfied until I have a true rigid rear clip on the bike. I didn't want to paint until I decided if I was going to keep it or cut it. My original plan was to leave the mount over the fender to mount a brake light on it, with a short sissy bar. But I nixed the sissy bar. Was thinking about painting the frame a gun metal or rhino lining it. I don't know. Again, any advice will be greatly appreciated.

How did you make the struts where the shocks used to be?

looks pretty good to me. Once painted or whatever the brace over the fender will be less noticeable (stand out less) and look fine.

The struts are just some 3/4"x3/4" solid stock with 1/2'pipe cut 3/4' long and welded to bottom and top then ground smooth. They are 10" long overall. I beveled and grooved everything for a nice deep weld so grinding it flat wouldn't make it too weak. Although I am thinking about making new ones that are 10 and a half inches long. I got this really old school looking brake light that I'm going to mount on the fender brace that should really make a difference. I've come to the conclusion that I just need to get back on track and finish and quit nit picking everything I do. Thanks guys for helping me put things in perspective.
