    My '83's collector is toast. I want to maintain a stock 4 into 2 system. Has anyone found a decent alternative to the collector as they are very difficult to find.

    I guess I could have a shop fab two "Y" pipes?

    Any input would be apprecisted.

    Oh & If any one has a used setup please let me know.

    Thanks

    Or, you could have them fab a collector. I remember reading about someone building one up from scratch (I think he used stainless), but I couldn't tell you where to find this treasure trove of information off the top of my head.

    Is the collector actually just 2 "Y" pipes welded together, or is it one chamber that distributes the ex to both sides?

    it's a kind of 'single chamber' effect. Helps to balance the exhaust loads across all 4 cylinders and help improve efficiency by increasing exhaust gas scavenging effects.

    You could get a similar (although probalby not as pronounced) effect with two Y pipes.

    A collector should be an easy strike on eBay, or try a salvage yard, like http://motolane.com/ or sign up with an on-line parts locator service, it's how I found Motolane and both stock exhaust systems for my 550 Secas.

    I read that DIY Article; too. A guy fabricated a whole system out of Stainless Steel after using the Stock System as a template for piecing the Stainless.

    The Collector Box is a Dual Chamber affair with a unique baffle.
    I think its in the XJ Owners Pages.

    The custom exhaust my seca is getting is a 4 into 2 into 1. Two "Y" pipes off the headers, towards the middle where the collector was, but slightly off towards one side (probably the right side), then another "Y" pipe to push those two pipes into 1. Stepping slightly larger at each junction to allow for proper flow.

    That DIY is pretty rockin, I remember seeing that.

    Here's a complete system off an '81 Max 750, 17 hours left on the auction and no bids yet, starting bid $119.00. Bet it would cost more than that to have something fabbed. Double-check your part numbers but I believe they're the same. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/YAMAHA-X ... ccessories

    That ebay System isn't XJ.

    That system, with the Y - Pipe and the cross-over is XS.

    Doh! Should have thought it was him.

    The link in question looks like it points to a file on his local hard drive. Fortunately, all one has to do is substitute the correct filename (id36.htm) into the url and it comes right up.

    Shoulda known. eBay sellers get it wrong all the time, my '83 Seca was listed as a Max... (EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS "SECA" ON IT IN THREE PLACES!!!) Thanks for picking up on that Rick, I'm not a 750 guy.

    Did you check with MotoLane yet for a new pre-owned one? Try these guys: http://www.ricksmotorcycles.com/used_parts.htm or maybe even check with http://www.emccycle.com/ I think I saw a Max 750 in his yard when I was there last. Try registering with an online parts locator service, that's how I found all the exhaust bits (that and eBay) for my Secas.

    What the heck is a " new pre-owned one" ???????????????????

    is that like CLINTON MATH ?

    something is either NEW, OR IS NOT... its kind of like... BEING PREGNANT, YOU ARE, OR YOUR NOT....

    NEW=NEW
    PREOWNED = USED
