I began using Seafoam in my Yamahas a year ago when rescuing an XJ11 from the not-so-kind hands of a "hill country person"

Wondering ... What are the practical uses for Seafoam?

How does it, or did it, help your motorcycle?
    Pls describe your user experience(s)
    Does it work as advertised?

Has there been any issues from using it like ruined rubber, carb or fuel system parts?

    Thanks for sharing!

I had gotten a can to use on my XJ, but ended up cleaning my carbs the 'Old Skool Way' and never used it on my bike.

However, I recently rented a shed to teardown my XJ in and it had no power, I borrowed a friend's generator.

He had bought it about 6 years ago and only run it once. I finally got all the old gas out of it, put some new in and put about 4 oz of Seafoam in and let it sit for about 4 hours. After several pulls it sputtered, backfired and has been running smoother each time I start it. It even seemed to clean the old plug up.

Good stuff, I religiously mix it in the gas for all my engines before storage for the winter. I prefer it to Sta-bil because it is also a cleaner. I don't know of any damage it has ever done to gaskets, seals, etc. It would be the exception if all my engines didn't fire right up when I get them out in the spring.

I have heard so much good stuff about it from this forum and the Honda 750F forum.
I decided to purchase a can, used it to prep the gas on both of my cycle for winter, hopefully it works.:)

Seafoam? Nobody around here has heard of this product. I even mentioned it to the piston-heads and they were puzzled. Stabil into the gas and fogging the cylinders is all the info I got from them.

I had to call 4 auto parts stores before I found it. But, since everyone here swears by it, I figure it was worth the effort. Most of my co-workers use Stabil on their Harleys.

It's a petroleum-based gasoline stabilizer developed in the 30's for outboard motors. http://www.seafoamsales.com/ I use an oz. per gallon of gas as a stabilizer; and use "deep-creep" (SeaFoam in aerosol form) where I feel more comfortable with a petroleum-based rather than solvent-based penetrant. I personally DO NOT feel confident using it in greater concentration or as an "engine treatment." I have heard of it being put to good use to flush out a gummed-up motor, to cure a sticky starter clutch.

its great to dry out vacuum systems in cars as well, i use it about once per year in all my vehicles.(1/3 a can in the gas, 1/3 a can in the oil, and 1/3 a can thru the vacuum port at the brake booster). also most advanced auto parts stores stock it as a regular item. if you cant find it there you can order it thru advancedautoparts.com

i was having some hesitation around 4k rpms, got some seafoam and it fixed it right up. I have since put a little in the oil and it seems to run smoother. So far so good, nothing bad to say about it.

I would NOT put that stuff in the OIL. Anywhere else, OK, it's first cousin to gasoline itself. Pour some in a clear vessel and look at it; if you add it to oil it WILL thin it, and mess with viscosity. XJs rev to near 10K rpms, I am NOT thinning out my oil, period. Gas/carbs, sure. Oil, no ah-ah.

I think the idea is to put it in the oil and let it sit for awhile, then drain it. I'm not sure if that includes cranking the engine or not.

For that, flushing, sure. I would hope that is the only idea, but I suspect not. Not "putting a little in the oil." There's a lot of raw aluminum in an XJ motor, proper oil of the proper weight is very important. Personally, I won't use that stuff except as a fuel treatment or for cleaning or as a penetrating oil.

I had a small stumble around 5K toward the end of the season.
I figured well, carbs come off this winter.
I had read on these boards about a guy who ran a couple tank fulls through before storage.
    I figured what the hell.
Maybe a gallon into the first tank the stumble disappeared.
I ran another tank full with Seafoam, it's been 500 miles and no stumble.
    So, coincedence?
I don't know, or as Schooter would say IDK, where has that whipper snapper been lately?

I found it in a napa store early in the year.I though it made the engine a bit smoother running.Let a friend run some through his goldwings gas tank and he swears by the stuff now.He has a lawn mantaince bussiness and says it's worked wonders on his small engines. So when i bring out snow blower i'll give it a try and see.

If it's mostly Naptha, then why don't we just buy Naptha by the gallon, at much less than $8.00 a PINT ?!

Naptha is what's in lighter fluid, that's not too cheap either.
Tried to find an article on making naptha but no luck, just how to use it in soap.
I can make napalm but, that doesn't help.

Everything I'm seeing seems to agree with not putting it in your crankcase and running the motor that way. Since it was originally intended as a fuel supplement, that's the only way I'll use it.

I had issues with the starter jets. (unclean carbs)
Mid riding season=no pulling of carbs!!
Added ~5oz of Seafoam to the fuel and the starting issues were resolved.
    Not perfect, but better!!

I was under the impression that adding to oil was a temporary thing...
Add a few oz's, run the bike around the block, and pull the drain plug. NOT REDLINING!!!!! Just warming of the engine/oil.
This technique is more of a flush, removing deposits and such.
Viscosity is not something Id want to fool around with on an AirHead

PS I also brush my teeth with SeaFoam :D

hey guys, ive been spending most of my time roaming through craigslist looking for a z400, found one and now the dumb old man wont elt me get one, "have to save up for collage" So i decided to write a 2 page report about why i should get an ltz 400 and i taped it to the garage door today, ill have to see what he says.

I used seafoam on my dads three wheeler without him knowing it, it didnt run for crap, would cough, hiccup, etc, so i poured some in, drove it around for about an hour, and now it runs liek a champ, it will idle, only hiccups when its cold, and freaks my dad out when he sees it smoke when you start it up, gee arent i a great kid for fixing your new three wheeler? Wouldnt you want to let me buy a quad?
oh and i wouldn't say "IDK" i would say isdk, cuz im a terrible typer (he he) anyone? ahhhh good to be back.

Seafoam is great stuff for removing the sludge in carbs from sitting but a word of caution. Do not use it in high concentrations in a tank that has been KREEMed. It will break down the lining and the lining material ends up in the carbs DAMHIKT
