What have you all done to your XJs?

Ive replaced the Fuse block, plugs, filter, tore down the top end, gaskets, the carb-to jug boots and Ive cleaned the carbs out twice now.

The previous owner "bobbed" the tank, painted her red, added the exhaust, recovered the seat and new tires.

For looks I have changed the grips and ALL pegs. I have also powder coated various peaces.

    Plans:

Redo the fuse block- totaly relocate it. Change out the mirrors. Repaint the tank and side covers (Blue?), new tires maybe. Upgrade air filter to he uni, maybe add a scoop to it... Maybe change out the turn signals for some LED based ones

    Thats if I keep her.

Well when I got mine it had a mangled up front end and had been stored in a garage for 10 or so years. I replaced with used parts the front fork, rim, tire, fender, one header, side plastic, tail plastic, and a set of progressive rear shocks. I bought a new set of aftermarket bars, cleaned the carbs. new battery, new plugs, new rear tire.

I am not starting to collect parts to freshen it up this spring. I am thinking of progressive fork springs, new brake pads and shoes, rebuild kits for the calipers, different master cylinder, new rear tire, new battery. I am going to find some way to mount some hi-way pegs too and I have an extra seat and a block of foam that I want to make a touring seat out of.

A new clutch and another set of new tires will come at the end of the season most likely since I will be putting a LOT of miles on this year.

I got my bike about 4 months ago. When I got the bike it was in running condition and complete, everything works. Since then I have rebuilt the carbs, painted fuel tank with spray cans following instructions in the xjcd. I currently have my forks off installing new seals, sandblasted and painted Oil filter housing, master cyl. caliper, and front wheel. While there off i'm installing kits in master cyl. and caliper. Adjusted valves and painted valve cover. Removed engine side covers and polished. Just got a new fuse block yesterday, I'll be installing that shortly. Purchased carb sticks, colortune plug, and have placed my order for the yics tool can't wait till it arrives so I can set my carbs. New wheel bearings and seals. I removed various aluminum parts and sandblasted and polished. I'll be getting my front wheel balanced saturday as I had to remove the tire to sandblast and paint the wheel. I've never riden this bike yet, so I hope after all I'm doing I'm not surprised with a big problem lurking in the background. It's only got 10,900 Miles on it so I'm hoping its OK. Well I have rode up and down my dead end street, about 1/8 mile long, before I tore into it. only trouble I found was the carbs not acting right. I had a crack in the speedo gear housing, It wasn't affecting Its operation so I patched it with some JB weld to keep dirt and water out and repainted.

Just picked up the new camchain. New dual-disc master cylinder and valve cover gasket on the way from PartsnMore. Progressive Suspension springs arriving any day now. Probably a set of braided hoses later in the spring, some new shocks, and maybe a new windscreen if a decent jobs comes my way after graduation.

Wow. I'm brand new to bikes myself, so I haven't done much. Been spending my time working on the riding part of the equation! All I've done is remove the windshield and sissy bar that was added by the previous owner, and remove the outer rubber bit on the handgrips to try to make the grips a bit smaller. With my small hands, it was a bit much to deal with. I also took out the helmet lock in an attempt to see if I could fix it, but let's not talk about that one...

I'm still in the process of assembling my 1982 XJ750 Seca. It was completely apart when I got it last summer ( posted some pictures in the photo gallery ). I knew it was missing parts, just didn't know how many until I got it home and started to "take stock". I got the run around on getting the registration, but finally got it in my name just before Xmas. In tracing the registration I found out it was last registered in 1988.
So far I've put new bearings, seals, gaskets, rings, piston pins, wheel bearings, used exhaust, front signals, and handlebars. I'm looking at replacing the brake lines with stainless steel.
Haven't worked on it for a while now, too cold up here!!!!
Hope to hear it run sometime soon!

I got my bike with 6500 miles on it. Barely broke in! All I've done is replace the exhaust baffels and do an oil change. I'm gonna finish what the previous owner started with the fuse box. 2/3 rewired, prolly as necessary. I also added a throttle rocker.

In spring i'll do the plugs, maybe the wires. It'll need tires before fall I'm sure.

The previous owner put a new seat on it. Pics of everything are on my home page.

My '81 550 Seca was owned by a friend and crashed the summer of '81. It was totalled. We bought it back from insurance for $1000.00 and put $1000.00 worth of parts on it. I put a Yoshamura 4 into one header on it and the usual tires, chains, sprockets etc. The bike sat for 10 years in the shed when I started having kids. I convinced my wife it wasn't worth anything so no point in selling it. 2003 it hit the road again! Long over due! Just in time to get in on the XJ 2000 Bag Relay. Put a new seat cover on last year. I'm going to take it in and get the valves set this spring. The bike runs good, looks good and sounds awesome with the Yoshi pipe.

I own a 85 maxim x. I the process of tearing her down now. The previous owner or owners made so many additions that she didn't really resemble a maxim x at all. So its now my project. My next step is to remove the engine from the frame so it can freshen up the paint on the frame and since the engine will be out I can get it a through lookover aswell. Slowly gathering up the original parts, still need an airbox, rear seat and instrument cluster. Also anybody know where I can get a good carb rebuild kit? Great site.

    Lets see...
MAC 4-into-1 exhaust (black), Progressive fork springs, 3-point engine guards, custom made fog light brackets for same, 35w fog lights w/ switch & relay, factory accessory instrument cover, aftermarket windscreen, changed out fuse box (twice), K&N air filter, K&N jet kit, backrest & luggage rack (aftermarket), LED accessory brake lights, grips, throttle lock, modified started button (old one fell out), custom recovered seat, custom recovered backrest pad, added running lights to the front signal lights, replaced OEM single bulb taillight with a dual-bulb unit from an '82, rebuilt caliper & master cylinder.

And I'm not even going ito the maintenance stuff - plugs, batteries, tires, brakes, etc

Plans? Hmmm.... Dyna or Accel coils & some plug wire, new plug boots, SS braided brake line, LED's for tail and/or turns, better headlight.

Here goes: Removed the original engine and installed one from an '82 Seca. Rebuilt, colortuned and synced the carbs. Pulled the head this winter and replaced the head gasket. Built and installed a new fuse box. Pulled everything chrome and polished on a lathe to rid it of rust. Rebuilt the forks. Built custom side cover panels which were custom painted to match the tank. Custom painted parts of the valve cover, carbs, point covers, rims and tail piece. Rebuilt the front calipers. Made a custom fork emblem which is yet to be painted to match the bike. Exchanged the oil sensor from the original engine into the current one so the oil warning light would go out. (Rode all last summer with that damn thing on). Polished the tail light lens. Replaced and cleaned turn indicators until all functioned. Replaced front wheel bearings. Replaced TCI. Polished and did engine turnings on the grab rail, foot peg brackets and side covers. Removed stock steel bolts and relaced with stainless steel ones. Changed foot pegs. Installed cruiser style grips. Installed Vista Cruise cruise control. Recovered seat. Replaced sparkplug resistor boots. New front tire with rear tire to come shortly. Powder coated fork legs. Repainted kickstand. New brake pads front and rear. Rebuilt starter and recut commutator. Installed K&N air filter.

Try to pull that oil sensor apart, I'm dying to know what it looks like inside (to cheap to pull apart my spare, hate goofing up good parts). I want pictures!

My Seca 550 is bone stock.
My Turbo is a pain in the tail, and I have changed over lots of stuff but still stock.
My ex seca 550 racebike, where do I start?? FZ600 front end with an 18 inch front wheel and dual front brakes with stainless brake lines. Calfab swingarm, Works performance shocks. Engine from FJ 600 bored out to 652 cc's ported, 5 angle valve job, degreed cams balanced engine, larger carbs, took out the guts to the starter, removed the alternator. SpecII exhuast, rearsets, clipons. Took it to the dragstrip a few years ago and it would still do respectable 11 second runs down the 1/4 mile. Not fast by today's standards but still fun :p Best lap time at Willow Springs was a 1:34 and that was just insanely fun

Actually I was thinking of selling it on ebay or offering up on this list for anyone who needed it. I'll take a look and see if it can be taken apart without ruining it.
