Hi guys I'm new here but I'm a regular at www.usa2strokers.com . I just picked up an 83 seca 900 and I'm in the resoration process. ( Got it for $200!) couple of questions... Is there a handlebar adapter available to put on tubular bars? The stock multi adjustables are too far forward for my liking. I tried flipping right and left to get the upper grip parts rearward but then the master cyl etc. wont fit. Also is there anywhere to get tank and sidecover badges? I looked at the badge replica site from down under but didn't see them. I'll also need a new windscreen. The cheapest I found was $98.00 (Ouch)

Welcome, that sure was a good price. Would love to see some pics of your bike to see what you got for $200 bux. Feel free to post them in our Photo Gallery.

Would Maxim factory handlebars suit your needs? They are curved and allow riders to sit more upright. Mind you I'm not sure if they cable length would become an issue.

For used parts try Ebay. Tons of XJ bike parts are being sold there on regular basis. You can buy a donor bike locally or post 'wanted' thread in our For Sale forum.

Well - if he could find someone with maxim bars they could do a complete controls/cables swap... personally I love the low bars.

Yes, I like the looks of my low bars 8O but they don't allow me to sit upright (short arms). I can't really implement forward controls or highway pegs because that will create discomfort to my forward sitting position.

Good luck with your project. I did the same thing in 2000. I bought it for $500 and sunk $2000 into it in new parts. It was still worth every penny, as it only had 18,000 Km on it Paying $800 for a new tank straight outta Japan was a bit steep, but boy, was it beautiful coming out of the box! Be sure to check the lower rear edges of the tank for rust bubbling, they're notorious for it. Too bad I sold it. I threw out my old tank with the emblems still on it. I got a windscreen for around the same price from Yamaha. I ruined the original by putting clearcoat on it.

BTW, I have a Yamaha factory service manual for the 900 if you're interested.

BikeBandit has the tank emblems for $23 a piece. Side emblems are discontinued according to them, but I'm sure you can dig them up somewhere.

That decail kit is a good one, I have bought from them before and have a few friends who bought decails from them and they are a good place to deal with.

I had already ordered some decals from Jared at speed and sport They should be here any day now. I hope I can get the proper paint codes. I will be painting it myself. That's good to know Bikebandit has tank emblems! I guess I'll go ahead and order up that 2" taller windscreen too. The only pics I have are shitty cameraphone pics. and Yes the paint is worn off on the lower edges and there's surface rust but the metal is still intact and it holds fuel fine.

Man, I'm diggin the purple XS!

That bike is about in the same shape as the one I picked up in 2000 for $500. It was a white one with the red and blue, like in my gallery.

I had to get a headlight, levers, one of the little air deflectors over the head, shocks, a battery, a windshield, a front fender, the switchblock on the right handlebar and of course, the tank. I actually patched it with Quicksteel epoxy, but the mechanic said it wouldn't pass inspection. It worked fine though.

After sitting for 13 years, the engine wouldn't turn over in gear, so i put it in first, coasted down the ramp at my parking garage, and popped the clutch. Worked fine after that. Had to throw some brushes in the starter motor and clean the carbs, but it ran flawlessly after that.

I really wish I had kept it.

Nice collection of bikes there. I couldn’t help but notice that Datsun Roadster in the garage. I had one of those a few years back as my first car. A 1969 Red 1600. One of the most honest driving experiences you can have with 4 wheels. Love the fact that it didn’t have power steering or breaks.
