So my wife teaches piano at our house and one of her new students sees my bike in the garage and says his dad just got rid of his motorbike. His dad came back to pick him up after the kids lesson, and I quiz him about it.

It was an XJ650 Turbo AND HE THREW IT AWAY....AT THE DUMP......

Then he says if he'd known I was into bikes he would have given it to me...

    Could have cried..... 8O

So how long did it take you to get to the dump?

Some people just don't get it, you would think it's a motorcycle it should be worth something to someone. I guess if you are rich you don't think about that kind of stuff, looks bad just throw it out.

I tossed a CB160 into a dumpster in 1987. It had been vandilized and was gutless as a commuter vehicle. I bought a Yamaha 400 special soon after.

if you go to the dump you'll most likely find it behind the building, take some cash with you

sgary, when I was shopping for my first bike this summer I tried to get 2 that were gone within hours. The only ones that stuck didn't have titles. After 5 or 6 of those I was pretty discouraged. When I found my xj750, the guy was a little shocked that I wanted to give him money on a Sunday to hold it for me 'till I could get to the bank haha!

I live in a pretty affluent area and worked in the office of the local waste hauler for Sarasota County until they laid all the office staff off. You would be amazed what the rich people on the keys would call about wanting to dispose of. These people would put perfectly good working big screen TV's to the curb just because they had to have the latest plasma screen. They would put out one or two year old computers because a newer, faster model just came out. They would buy a newly constructed condo and then have it gutted so that they could have the appliances, cabinets, finishes etc... that they wanted. At least Habitat for Humanity hooked up with a lot of the local contractors so that they could go in and pull some of materials to reuse before they went into the rolloff bins.

I got my 550 Seca and a Honda from someone who called in wanting to throw them away.

What really ticked me off about some of these people was when I would suggest that they might want to contact some of the local charities about donating a usable item instead of junking it, they would take great umbrage that I would suggest that someone might be allowed to use their cast-offs. That , or they would say they just didn't want to be bothered with it. Must be nice to be rich...

I know a guy who has ALL the toys you can think of. They all sit in his garages rusting, deteriorating and never being used. I'm talking about big $$$ one of a kind custom HDs, Massarattis, Porches. He drives his Chevy work truck, wears work clothes, smokes Pom Poms and is worth 100 million.
But he's weird about anyone touching his stuff, even to clean it.lol.
He's eccentric, but the nicest guy you could meet.
