Well, i just offered a guy my maxim for a cb900, but, its a 4 wheeler, he cut off the front, put on a yamaha warrior front end, he cut off the rear, and put on a yamaha warrior swingarm +6, but everythign else is cb900, is the engine solid? the tranny? im going to get this street legal, cuz ill just get plates and insuranse for a cb900, and the extra 2 wheels are minor modification, like a trike, lol, but seriously, it should work, it wont rip incredably i imagine, which is good oh ya its a 1980 cb900.
also, if i get it, im going to take it to my local steel shop, have them inspect the weld, reinforce any stress spots, re weld if they have to and just make sure its structurly sound.

Don't do it. Yes you can hang lights on it and scam a plate, this is Michigan and the Secretary of State has no clue. That doesn't REALLY make it "street legal." The first time the Michigan State Police see that thing on the road you are gonna be in more trouble than you can imagine. THEY know the difference, and will also jam you up for scamming the State. Probably impound the thing and you might not get it back.

Why don't you swing by your local Donut shop and talk to a Cop about it ?
Get some opinions from the other side of the ticket book.

augghh, how can trikes be legal but not quads? gosh i really hate getting my hopes up, thought i was going to buy a raptor, but nope, the guy coming to buy it never showed up and wont answer any of my phone calls, this sucks. Maybe i can talk to a state trooper or something about this, see what he thinks, i had so many plans for this, i found out that cb 900 had hi and low ranges, which is perfect for on/off road, gosh

ok well i just sent an email to the michigan state police, and ill see what he says.
I think that ATV's should be allowed on the street, i meanthink of how this could affect the economy, more people will be buying plates and insurance for them , this could increase ATV sales, and people will be using less gas cuz atv's get about 40 mpg, at least an LTZ 400 does.
this isnt any less safe than motorcycles, heck, on an atv you have more of a chance of surving a deer crash i imagine.

Schooter. Under current Michigan motor vehicle codes, having 4 wheels makes it a CAR. That means it is subject to all the requirements of a CAR. That's why it won't ever be legal unless the LAW changes, not what the State Police decide. They don't make the laws, they enforce them. You'd be better off writing to your congressman or state senator, although I doubt anything will change. The Spyder is a three-wheeler which is how it gets around the automobile standards. I'm sure there are a whole different set of rules it has to meet though, in order to be sold at all. You're not going to get away with a home-built streetable ATV unless it has TWO wheels and a big enough motor---then it's called a MOTORCYCLE (and has to meet those regs.)

OMGHonestly, if you read between the lines, the guy never got to run it. Look at the rear axle. The first time you bang second with any sort of traction that is gonna snap IMMEDIATELY. That thing is gonzo barnyard engineering at its worst. Be very afraid.

We saved you from that nightmare, Schooter.

Why don't you get focused on what you want to ride.
To me, you sound like a "Bike guy"
Every now and then, you slip into a Quad-rider.

    Ride a Bike.
    See the world.
    Ride a Quad
    See the neighborhood.

well, you see, my taste in vehicles is like my personality, i liked 4 wheelers cuz thats what my parents told me to like, and with 4 wheeleres theres no surprises, its sturdy, and wont fall over on you, but i got a taste of the 2 wheel life, like the unpredictability and it's "wildsideness" but with that you have to deal with the consequences of its "tippyness" and i dont like those consequences, lol but 4 wheelers kick ass

    You missed the point.

    4-wheelers kick-ass around the neighborhood.

2-wheelers kick-ass around town, county, state, country, other countries etc.

Schooter; There ARE 4-wheeled street legal vehicles, they're called CARS. You can get dune-buggyish and still be street legal, but the closest thing to what you'd like to see is the Spyder, which we've discussed. Rick is right; you're not going to ride up to Copper Harbor or down to North Carolina and tour the Blue Ridge Parkway on a quad. You probably could with your S-truck; but you DEFINITELY could on your XJ and have a lot more fun along the way. You need to open up your mind past Elkton and realize that your XJ can hold the promise of the rest of the country not just the next field. What you make of that potential is up to you.

Lordy... I would never trade an XJ for an abomination like that.

What year of CB 900 are you looking for information on, since there are quite a few models and years?

    Cheers,

    David :D

You can hear that thing spooling up!
    Nice.
I was going to ask what state it was legal in but I see New Zealand on the fender.
