    Hi fellow XJ er's,
My name is Lew and I am fairly new on this site. I have been on the XJ owners site for many years. I own two 1985 Maxim X's and they both need a carb tuning and valve adjustment.

Would anyone be interested in attending a carb clinic if I had one in Florida? It would either be in Palm Bay or in Flagler Beach florida. If you might be interested let me know.

Welcome to the site Lew !
I have a Colortune and a Manometer to bring with me.
We would need access to new shims that day to adjust the valves.
Is there a dealer in Palm Bay?

Too bad Chacal doesn't list a "variety pack" in his vast inventory.

    Hmmm...

I have a collection of 8 shims that are left over from taking all 8 from the parts bike and swapping 4 of them in the daily rider.

Others here must have some laying around from similar endeavors.

I am in need of at least two of the 260 thickness.

Hey Time........I can supply a number of different parts needed to conduct a carb clinic, tools, carb rebuild parts, fuseboxes, alternator brushes, etc. Even variety packs of different shims sizes!

Flagler is only 80 miles away. . .

I'd be interested in Flagler beach. Comming from St. Aug and carbs are one of the things on my list...

Like herding cats, from what I've heard......... :D

Let me know if you want a list of the "most popular" items that you might want to have on hand (or request that others bring with them).

I have not nailed down any dates but I am thinking either February or March but no later than April. I left my day-timer on my desk at work so I can't be more specific right now. I will post tomorrow with a few dates for each of those months we can narrow it down from there. How does that sound?

Here are some dates that work for me. We can narrow it down further from there till we come up with one that hopefully works for everyone planning to attend: I don't know if we want to do a one day event or a two day event so I will give weekend dates and hope we agree on at least one of the days.

    17-18 January 2009

    14-15 February 2009

    7-8 March 2009

    21-22 March 2009

    28-29 March 2009

    4-5 April 2009

    10-11 April 2009

Now we should be able to agree on at least one of those dates. Please, if you plan on attending delete the dates that does not work for you and resubmit the others.

A carb clinic is a rendezvoux of XJ owners with their bikes at someone's house or place of work where everyone can better learn how to take care of their bikes by tuning them up and getting them purring like a kitten or roaring like a lion.

    Hey Lew -
I'm pretty much open until April, I think this should be done while it's still cool out. (yes, the low 70's in January- - it's Florida) We can PM all XJ-ers on the map (have you seen the map?)
I also have the XJCD - - latest version and lots of tools.

And Chacal- - LOL at herding cats !! We should pre-order some supplies of valve cover gaskets, alt. brushes, filters, ETC.

Sound like a great idea but definately need to research the carbs first. If they need shaft seals or intake boots, a sync would be usless as a first step.I would love to attend if it even if it was just for the valve adjust part. I need to completely rebuild my rack before I can even think about clean and syn though.

What happened in PM's was we didn't get people to agree on a specific date. It would have been a fun day meeting and working with XJ-ers, but the logistics of checking and adjusting valve lash first, then having everyone pull their carbs apart at the same time, then finish the day with carb sync and tuning before dark- - it boggles the mind!

A meet to just do the final running sync and ColorTune, then plug chops, along with other minor repairs, followed by lunch and a group ride would make a full and successful day.
But then that's not a "carb clinic".

( I'll add that Chacal offered GREAT support for this event)

I'm in for a Get Together once it gets cooler, after September.

Finally dove into the carbs with both feet (so to speak). Process was actually pretty straight forward. Found alot of crud and rust (had to seal the tank when I got it). Waiting on some bowl screws so I can set levels and then it sync and color tune. Wouldn't mind meeting with some others and chatting though.
