She's been a good girl this past year and Santa Chacal is delivering the following....

    6 Panel fuse box

    Neutral switch and related washer

A snazy new o-ring for her leaky oil sending unit

Papa Rob is delivering front and rear skins along with a couple of coats of tender loving TW Ice.

    Shhhhh..... dont tell her.....

    schooter's drunk dont mind him!

my xj may get some sweet dual sport tires from the in-laws for hanukah, or i may get a full face helmet from them. not sure.

other than that my wife and i arent getting gifts for each other. her school loans are coming due now that she is graduated, and connecticut has this lovely "lawyer tax" that is due by the end of the month. $450 because she worked her ass off and passed the CT bar exam. WTF is that?

way too many bills for us in one month, so no presents. however the chopping will begin because labor is "free" when im the one doing it!

merry christmas bike, i got you a sawzall!

Got some Christmas cash so I plan on buying a new set of soft saddlebags. Then I'll have a good excuse to get out and go for a tour in the spring. Always thinking!

    Lets see, she's getting:

    Forks rebuilt
    New Front and Rear fenders
    New Hard Saddlebags
    New Lighting
    A windshield
    An alternator rebrushing
Removal of some what will be excess frame
    A new coat of paint
    A new seat
    A name, ARACHNAE

And a newly poor, but hopefully ecstatic rider.

i wasn't drunk when i posted that, underage drinking is bad.... But really, im pissed off at my maxim, cuz of the second gear thing, what i think i want to do is sell it, and then use that money to buy another bike.... not sure how well that will work...

Hey schooter, with all of that angst, why not apply the effort to fixing it???
It may seem daunting but it is a very do-able job. If you have the book, take pictures as you go along and you should be able to whip that thing out in a week or two (winter is here, why wait any longer???). Just remember to mark everything in terms of location and (very important here) orientation. I paid a fellow to teach me how to rebuild a transaxle (best investment I ever made, after my wife of course) and learned not only how to do it but that it wasn't the nightmare I believed it would be. It taught me not to fear the unknown of gearboxes and I have been fearless at tearing into anything ever since. You might be surprised at how simple it really can be.
Incidentally, Santa got me a new rear tire (Duro) and a new helmet! I must have been really good this year!

    hey bigfitz,
Those bars look great. Which bars are those? that is about what i am l;ooking for. i do not really want flat drag bars or clubman bars but something more forward than what I have. I think mine might be the nighthawk style from your second picture. they come back pretty much. I assume they were the original bars but I do not know.
beautiful bikes BTW, do you have pix from the side? i wou ldlove to see them. When I get mione back I will post some here. Mine has the little fairing.

Both bikes have the "European" bend, the second from the bottom in the handlebar array pic. There are pics of my white one ('81) in my gallery and here: http://s437.photobucket.com/albums/qq93/bigfitz52/ Not as many pics of the black '83, it's still a work in progress.
My '81 came with the fairing too, I sold it and "defairinged" the bike (front side reflectors and "Seca" logo on front of instrument cluster.)

Your bike looks like it has the stock bars on it.

Back to the original topic: The '83 is getting black chrome bits and H4 conversion; and the valve adjustment finished if I can get off my butt. The '81 is getting spiffy new carb hats from Santa chacal.

Santa brought me a Memphis Shades bobbed (shorty) windshield to replace my Memphis slim, which was too high and narrow for my taste. It actually protects me from the wind better, being it's widder and the wind still flows over my head while looking over the top.
I'm also thinking of converting my tail light (oblong LED type used on trucks, etc) so that the three LEDs on each end will work as turn signals. Intigrated ones cost way too much and by looking inside of it, it looks like just a bit of electrical magic will solder and a few wires will do the trick.

Ooooh er! fanny means something else this side of the water - and Gentlemen don't have one!

I think my XJ wants an owner who is a bit more motivated to get into the garage but when it's -5, I like to stay inside!!!

Santa came early. He brought me some 15" ape hangers, forward foot conrtol kit (both courtesy of TCBros Choppers), mini turn signals, tail light and two weeks of leave so I could transform my '81 550 maxim into one bitchin' bobber. I even customised the exhaust to fit the fwd controls. All that was done with help from Clive and the boys at So-Low Choppers (www.solowchoppers.co.uk). As soon as the seat is covered (after the new year) I will post some pictures. The temp seat doesnt do it justice. So needless to say Mrs Clause was very generous this year. :D
