Has anyone came across some saddlebag wheel guards that will fit a 1981 XJ650H Maxim? I'm sure that any of the 650/750's would work too. Generic or OEM, anything. I don't like leather thongs being the only thing that keeps them out of the wheels

Thanks for the picture! I was thinking that I'd buy some stainless steel tubing and washers and silver solder them together, basically the same as what you had done. It's so much easier to buy stuff and attach it, but with bikes this old, you gotta do most of the stuff yourself.

    Thanks again.

    chevy45412001,

Did you use like 1/4" steel rod? Know I understand the "heating & bending" part. I like not having to braze or weld. I was hoping to find some chrome that was close down at the boneyard, but haven't made it out there yet.

    Thanks again.

ya i just checked,i had bought two sticks not knowing how much it would take with all the bending. It says PLT- STEEL ROD
    1/4" x6'
so i would think it is plated steel still looks good and has been sitting outside in the elements. i don't care if mine is chrome or not can't really see it with the bags on anyways and if i take them off i can remove the brackets in like five min or less.
